In Flanders Fields
by John McCrae, May 1915
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep,
though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
“Mine is Kipling, followed by Service.”
When I was very little, my favorite story was Riki Tiki Tavi. I can still remember sitting on my father’s lap as he read that story and played out the parts for me!
I don’t suppose kids today learn Service or Kipling or Frost. More’s the pity.
Aftermath, Siegfried Sassoon.....Have you forgotten yet?

“The Mansions of the Lord”
Words by Randall Wallace
To fallen soldiers let us sing
Where no rockets fly nor bullets wing
Our broken brothers let us bring
To the mansions of the Lord
No more bleeding no more fight
No prayers pleading through the night
Just divine embrace, eternal light
In the mansions of the Lord
Where no mothers cry and no children weep
We will stand and guard though the angels sleep
All through the ages safely keep
The mansions of the Lord

God bless our men and women in uniform, now and in times past. We can never repay the debt we owe them.
