LOS ANGELES City Councilman Bernard Parks Tuesday introduced a resolution symbolically banning the N word in Los Angeles.
Nearly a year ago, Michael Richards, who played Kramer on Seinfeld repeatedly used the word when he took on a heckler during a stand-up routine at the Laugh Factory and, last week, reality-television figure Duane Dog Chapman was excoriated for his use of the derogatory term for blacks.
On Friday, the City Council will vote on the resolution, which is similar to a ban called for by the Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Los Angeles.
The word connotes a lazy person with no self respect or regard for family, a person who is ignorant, stupid, slow moving, does not speak proper English and has childlike qualities, Parks wrote in the resolution.
The council of the city of Los Angeles encourages the residents of Los Angeles to cease using the N word and to encourage all others whom they may encounter in their daily routine to cease from using the word as well.''
Richards made national headlines after cell phone video of the Nov. 17 confrontation came to light. He later made an appearance via satellite on the Late Show with David Letterman for the sole purpose of apologizing for his rudeness. In July, he announced that he had retired from standup comedy.
Wonder how they’re going to enforce this in Compton.
The word is banned everywhere...except for Watts.
Yeah, but good luck enforcing it with some of those neighborhoods.
“What’s up my N-word brutha!?”
They won’t, Compton is a separate city from Los Angeles.
I know, but since I’m unfamiliar with the names of LA’s various districts, that’s the closest I can get.
This article is confusing. I don’t see an example of the “N-word” they are talking of banning. Nepotism? Neophyte? Nuclear fission? What?
Not going to be done...or enforced in those neighborhoods...only where predominantly white folk live, if even there.
Gonna be hard to do in nearby Hollywood, which uses it regularly in their movies......
Politicians might ban the word "Nepotism" but they won't ban the practice.
How’s about these 3 little words: FREEDOM OF SPEECH?!
(Not that I condone the use of ‘bad’ words, but this will be a slippery slope if it passes!)
They won't. Key word in the first sentence -- "symbolically." Vote it up or vote it down, no matter which, because it doesn't matter. Then move on to matters of substance.
"lazy people with no self respect or regard for family, a person who is ignorant, stupid, slow moving, does not speak proper English and has childlike qualities,
We will need a replacement word,
city coucil member.. NO too long. DEMOCRATE!
Indeed. Ain’t liberalism grand?
While you’re at, why not the b-words? (sarc)
I think mostly Blacks use this term anymore. Is there going to be a symbolic punishment for this symbolic banning?
