LOS ANGELES City Councilman Bernard Parks Tuesday introduced a resolution symbolically banning the N word in Los Angeles.
Nearly a year ago, Michael Richards, who played Kramer on Seinfeld repeatedly used the word when he took on a heckler during a stand-up routine at the Laugh Factory and, last week, reality-television figure Duane Dog Chapman was excoriated for his use of the derogatory term for blacks.
On Friday, the City Council will vote on the resolution, which is similar to a ban called for by the Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Los Angeles.
The word connotes a lazy person with no self respect or regard for family, a person who is ignorant, stupid, slow moving, does not speak proper English and has childlike qualities, Parks wrote in the resolution.
The council of the city of Los Angeles encourages the residents of Los Angeles to cease using the N word and to encourage all others whom they may encounter in their daily routine to cease from using the word as well.''
Richards made national headlines after cell phone video of the Nov. 17 confrontation came to light. He later made an appearance via satellite on the Late Show with David Letterman for the sole purpose of apologizing for his rudeness. In July, he announced that he had retired from standup comedy.
They should start with narcissist. (Like Herr Parks)
And the H-words? And the S-words? And the G-words? And the...
I just had a thought—if this thing passes and the N-word is banned, and someone actually uses the N-word, will they symbolically be accused of using symbolic ‘hate speech’???
Once upon a time we use to learn etiquette or to be courteous, thoughtful etc.
Women libs and amoral parents fostered this culture of chaos upon society!
How can they pass that with out starting to erode the 1st amendment?
The upside of freedom of speech means you can say just about anything you want. (short of the typical "fire" in a crowded theater) The downside is you have to put up with other people expressing their views too.
I often have to just shake my head and laugh at some of these people pushing diversity, tolerance, etc. They are all for tolerance and understanding - right up to the point where they are confronted with someone who is intolerant, opinionated, perhaps even bigoted. Then these proponents of tolerance tend to become some of the most intolerant people in the world. They cannot tolerate intolerance, they must fight it, suppress it, ban it, penalize it, etc. Their hypocrisy can actually be quite funny. But alas, whatever happened to "I disagree with what you say, sir. But I will defend to the death your right to say it!"
As for the LA Law... I guess that means about 50% of the rap songs will be banned within the city limits. Maybe they can fine any radio stations broadcasting into their airspace too. Sounds like another unenforceable, unreasonable, feel-good, do-nothing law.
Neener, neener?
connotes a lazy person with no self respect or regard for family, a person who is ignorant, stupid, slow moving, does not speak proper English and has childlike qualities,
All right - which democrats in DC are they referring to?
All the problems and this idiot worries about that?
No wonder things don’t change in the city.
Maybe hang a noose on their door? ;-)
And then there was Blazing Saddles where it kinda disappeared as part of the movie, as in "The new sheriff's a Nig-boing" (bell ringing) - hilarious - I don't remember any great protests about even the potential use of the word when the movie came out, but those were days when everyone wasn't out looking to be offended on any excuse......
I think they should just ban rap, it will be easier,
and all the crap coming out of Holliwood as well. They are going to have to throw out all archives of all old movies made before this N word ban came into effect.
Toss it all out, burn it all. And don’t make any more until a complete list of insensitive words are properly banned before making new tv shows and movies. Start fresh with a clean slate.
Of course, something will come along and be nasty and start the process all over again..
True! You won't know you uttered the word until you are arrested. Then the cop will say you're charged with using the N-word. And the jury will say your guilty of using the N-word. And the Judge will say 'Ten days and $100.00 fine for using the N-word.
And Groucho will say, 'You win the rubber chicken for saying the magic N-word.
And through it all, nobody will tell you what the N-word is. Even when the law is passed, it will be the most ambiguous piece of writing you ever did see.
An underground cult will form, which will be dedicated to chanting the N-word as soon as they find out what it is.
I wonder if they are prepared to fine or arrest a lot of black people if they pursue this.
I see we’re on the same wavelength. I don’t like the word, either, but if you’re going to report, report.
I like the idea of this cult. It’ll be more mysterious than the Masons.
Or against black rappers, comedians, actors and their record labels and studios and show venues.
