Pat Robertson, one of the nation's most influential Christian leaders, plans to endorse former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani today, the Politico has learned.
Giuliani has struggled to win support of social conservatives because of his moderate views on abortion and gay rights. But now he has one of the most resonant imprimaturs with Christian voters.
Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.), meanwhile, plans to announce his surprise endorsement of former Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for president on Wednesday, a campaign official told Politico.
The endorsement is to be announced in Dubuque, Iowa.
The alliance gives McCain once a front-runner, now struggling a crucial bridge to social conservatives, an important constituency that has remained suspicious of him despite his opposition to abortion.

I’m not a Mormon, but I’d check other sites besides that particular one for a good understanding of Mormanism...
That site is notoriously biased against non-Fundamentalist Christian groups.
This election cycle has done a good job exposing a lot of these supposed pro-life leaders as whores.
No religious conservative with integrity would support Rudy or Romney.
I just heard it in his words.
Pat was just on FOX news, it is true.
He is.
I’m sure it’ll be news to McCain that he’s FORMER Sen from AZ.
You don't get it, do you? Imagine, 2008 becoming the year in history that is looked upon as the year that the Republican party became a pro-abortion party in practice (with the pro-life plank in the platform eventually changed).
No, the Republicans if they vote in Rudy are going the way of the Whig party.
If Hillary ends up in the White House, it won’t be the fault of the ‘ilk’ that had the guts to stand by our convictions, it will be the fools that settled for a candidate who had the alleged best chance to beat Hillary.
It will be YOUR fault. Not ours.
Thank God for your post! Hopefully people to take heed to it and listen!!!!
then we don’t have any leaders then.
without leadership the pro-life vote won’t go to rudy just because of this endorsement.
But it will be split between Fred, Mitt and Huck. Who is going to come up, make a stand and unite everyone? Otherwise Rudy will just win by default.
Wrong analogy. When a husband goes on a business-trip fling with a loose multi-abortion woman, while the wife "stays home," it's not the fault of the woman for "staying home." The husband had the choice to bring his wife along for the trip, and leave Iabort My Babies at home.
Yes, reconciliation can occur after a separation. But let's keep it clear as to which party is trying to dissolve the relationship.
I guarantee all the R candidates are studying the fallout from the last Dem debate. My position is the one candidate who makes a firm stand against illegal immigration and for securing the borders, including enforcing the laws on the books now- will be the one who takes the lead and runs.
Hunter and Tancredo have been by far the best candidates on the immigration issue (and consistently so over a long period of time), but if either of them emerges with the lead anytime soon I'd be more than a bit surprised. ....and more than a bit thrilled.
I’ll wait and hear it from Pat himself on his own show or christian publication. I don’t trust the media to tell us the truth.
once rudy wins he will be the default candidate for the next election. That’s 8 years of rudy vs only 4 years of hillary, who will be another carter.
IMMIGRATION is the most powerful issue in this election. It is a wide open opportunity for almost any of the candidates (including Dems if they want to be brave -and win) to seize upon.
Ditto.
We FReepers are so eager to hate high-profile Christians, aren’t we?
LOL!!! Very funny.
Hunter is great and I would whole-heartedly support him. But Tancredo, though his ideas on immigration are good, is perceived a one-issue candidate. The candidate who will appeal the most to voters will be the one who combines common sense with conviction, a track record to support it, and the most important thing- believability- on all the key issues. In my mind, that opens the door for Hunter and Thompson. Personally, I’d put Tancredo in charge of INS. :)
