This will be the official thread for the landing of the Space Shuttle Discovery.. What a mission!!!!
She did good.
Wheel stop. Careful climbing out. Do walk-around. Gas it up for the next mission.
Why do we do it? We do it because we can. After all, we’re Americans.
With apologies to Ronald Reagan.
Hold it! Wait until TSA is finished passenger screening!
Hail Discovery!
Prior to the first launch of the shuttle, President Reagan said “we are the first, and we are the best. And we are so because we are free.”
I just hope it stays that way but I sometimes have my doubts.
LOL!!
Customs: “Is there anything that you’d like to declare?”
I remember one of the Saturn 5 launches where Jessie Jackson was interviewed and he said something to the effect that he was so overwhelmed for a moment that he thought of himself as an American, rather than Black.
“Yeah! I’d like to declare that I am tired of pooping in zero-gee!”
ROFL!!!!
I tried something this time. At 8:58 before touchdown, I started track 6 on Mannheim Steamroller’s Fresh Aire V, which was inspired by Johannes Kepler’s dream in 1609 about flying to the Moon. The track’s title is “Earthrise/Return”. It was AWESOME to hear that music as Discovery came down the last bit of the way.
Y’all might want to try it next time, should you get the chance.
How many litres of Romulan Ale am I allowed to bring back to Earth without paying duty?
1:04 p.m. — The vehicles in the landing convoy are rolling toward Discovery as it sits on the runway.
1:01 p.m. - Discovery’s landing gear is down and locked at 14 seconds to touchdown main gear touchdown... nose gear touchdown! Discovery and crew are home after a triumphant mission to the International Space Station. The shuttle is rolling down the runway, reflecting the bright Florida sunshine and Discovery’s wheels have stopped. Welcome home!

You should put those together and put up on YouTube. That landing was SWEET...
All you want, if you are being escorted by a Romulan Battle Cruiser!
Were that I knew HOW. I’m not THAT technically proficient.
I work at Kennedy Space Center, we can’t always see it but the weather is so beautiful here today we were able to watch most of the last turn and then continuosly from about 5000 ft to almost touchdown (it gets below the tree line just before torchdown) Fantastic landing!
Lucky you! Where at KSC do you work?
Landing looked flawless.
It appears the crew are still onboard:

1:16 p.m. - Inside Discovery, the astronauts are going through the standard checklist while, outside the orbiter, the landing convoy team continues work to “safe” the vehicle. It’s been 15 minutes since landing.
1:06 p.m. - “Hello there. It’s nice to be back in Florida!” said Commander Pam Melroy as she and her crew begin their post-landing duties.
