An interesting comment from Mr. Schneider with his obligatory cheap shot at President Bush at the end. I think, however, he misses the point. The message and personal attributes are all well and good but it is, in my opinion, the fact that he is out there, in the early primary states, working his tail off to earn their votes that has people the most impressed. Romney criss-crossed Iowa before the straw poll with either himself, his wife or one of his son's hitting every last county and precinct in the state. That kind of thing does not go unnoticed, at least by the voters anyway. He is doing the same in NH, MI and SC and his work ethic and exhaustive effort, along with the other attributes, is paying dividends.

Bottom line here is this: There isn't another candidate in the field that has put as much effort and energy into winning. That kind of energy attracts people. That's the kind of energy Reagan gave off. That's the kind of energy that wins elections.

The formula is very simple. If you want people to vote for you, ask them. It was said that Evangelicals would never vote for a Mormon. And this sentiment was not without merit. Evangelicals and Mormons do not see eye to eye on much of anything. And yet, several prominent Evangelicals have now endorsed Mitt Romney. Why? Because he's the only candidate who has gone to them and personally asked for their support. He worked for it and then followed up his words with sincere action. That too does not go unnoticed.

One of the best examples of this winning hustle that Romney is showing happened just recently. Not long ago, Mitt Romney won the straw poll at the Values Voters Summit with Gov. Huckabee making a strong showing in second. Some, including Gov. Huckabee, complained that Romney had won by "unfairly" taking advantage of the Summit's allowance of Internet voting to win the poll, despite the fact that this option was available to all the candidates to use. Romney was apparently the only candidate who saw all of his legal options and used them all to his fullest advantage. Isn't that what winners do? Use all available avenues, within the rules, to win? Mitt Romney has clearly demonstrated, through word and deed, that he is in this to win. That is the kind of person we need at the head of the ticket if we want to defeat the Liberals in this next election. Someone with ideas, vision, experience, and a strong will to win combined with all out effort.

.... And willing to pay $650 per worthless straw poll vote.

MICHAEL REAGAN

The son of President Reagan wrote the following in Human Events:

Some Republicans insist that the only perfect candidate would be a clone of my Dad, Ronald Reagan. Aside from the fact that there is no such thing, it’s important to recognize that Ronald Reagan, as he often admitted, was anything but perfect.

One of the criticisms about former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney focuses on his record concerning the abortion issue. We are told by the modern day Diogenes clones that he can’t be trusted to fight abortion because he once, more or less, supported a woman’s right to butcher her baby.

It may come as a surprise to these purists, but Ronald Reagan once supported abortion too. Yet nobody ever questioned his strong pro-life credentials after his conversion to Republicanism. They accepted his sincerity. Why can’t they accept Mitt Romney’s?

Romney’s record shows he should be totally acceptable to all conservatives, yet because of one dubious question concerning the validity of his conversion to the pro-life side, he is deemed unsuitable to carry the conservative banner.

The same garbage you post over and over still does not apply. Michael Reagan does not claim Ronald Reagan was “adamantly pro-choice.”

Of course he doesn’t. It’s a lie.

Slick Willard’s lie.

Not a Romney supporter, but I have a feeling he’s going to get the nomination. He seems to have laid out a strategy and is doing the hard work of completing it. If he wins the early states, with his funding, he could roll to victory.

When Fred goes down, you had better be prepared to eat those words and support the Republican, otherwise we are no better than titmice under the feet of the giant.
