Even Fred Thompson doubts he'll be president

Even Fred Thompson doesnt think he will become president. Chatting off-air to a television reporter, a stunningly candid off-the-cuff quip from the Hollywood actor cemented the impression that his heart is not in the 2008 race.
Trying to encourage his studio to hurry up so an interview could start, Carl Cameron of Fox News said into his microphone: The next president of the United States has a schedule to keep. Standing beside him, a deadpan Mr Thompson interjected: And so do I.
As some Thompson aides looked bemused and others cringed, a taken-aback Mr Cameron, Foxs chief political correspondent, exclaimed: You cant do that kind of stuff!
The self-deprecating quip said much about the former Tennessee senators candidacy.
He was lampooned mercilessly after a YouTube clip showing him asking an audience Iowa underwhelmed by his stump speech: First of all, could I have a round of applause?

Strange, every nutroots leftist site I see keeps saying that Fred should get out of the race...

IT'S JUST A JOKE. For crying out loud, don't make a big deal out of this. He's displaying the same self-deprecating sense of humor that Bush has. The media never got it then, won't get it now either.
Fred supporters should get a grip, though.

One has to ask why Fred is in the race in the first place. Who on the Republican side benefits?

When are the Fred-Heads going to read the writing on the wall?
Huck and Hunter might still have a shot after all. ???
Yea, your right. A recent poll indicates Duncan is spiking to 3% from his usual 1 - 2%.
Mike is at a blistering 5%.

It is one of the “works” that mormons must do in order to perform ordinances for their dead ancestors. Without the names and these ordinances, their dead cannot be redeemed to the Celestial Kingdom.
Mormonism is all about works. Obviously my family have been very active members of the Church. Some of those lines go back to the yea 080 AD.
(now one of them will try to deny it)

Fred peaked at 23.5% immediately after he announced his "official" candidacy in September. Ever since then, he has slid down in the polls like a firefighter responding to a call.
RCP Average 10/23 - 11/04 - Rudy - 28.9 Fred - 16.3 McCain - 15.1 Romney - 11.3 Huckabee - 7.7 (realclearpolitics.com)
Meanwhile, Huckabee has climbed out of the gutter and continues to slide up the fireman's pole. In other words, Fred has lost almost as many points in the past two months as McCain has lost since the race began.

I like Fred Thompson. That’s why I want Mitt to choose him for his running mate as the VP.
To: Bobkk47
Interesting thought but Mitt isn’t getting the nod.
Happy to wager those who think differently.

Lets go to Rasmussen where Mike looks even better
11/05/07
Fred 18%
Rudy 23%
Total 41%
Mitt 11%
Juan 15%
Mike 12%
Total 38%
Remainder? 21%
Other Candidates come to about 5% Undecided is at about 16%, basically a tie with Fred for second place.
In other words, we, as I have said before, are waiting for the low level candidates to drop. Since they are very conservative candidates it is unlikely they will go for Mitt or Juan. Maybe about 1% for Mike. Gotta remember, the very conservative candidates are not going to line up with someone weak on the illegals.
That puts Fred dead even with Rudith at 23 - 23.
Then as the undecided fall into place I expect half of them to link with Fred. They are finding out more each day about Rudith and it is unlikely that ANY of them will go to the Tooter. The other half will spread out to the other candidates.
Result
Fred at 31%
Rudy at 26%
Juan 15%
Mike 14%
Mitt 12%
Total at 97% with 2% for variables

Ah my friend... You seem to be overlooking Fred’s recent revelation that he supports the state’s right to self govern the abortion issue. That will kill him amongst the Pro-Life crowd, which probably makes up about half of his current base. My guess is that, by Christmas, this will be a three way race between Guidy, Mitt and Huck, with Duncan, Fred and Juan fighting for last place.
That leaves us with only one unanswered question: "When will the Dodo bird fly the coup to restart his solo career as an independent/libertarian?"
