RealClearPolitics November 04, 2007 Wooing the 'Indies' By Salena Zito

Welcome to New Hampshire: home of granite, the first presidential primary in the nation (mandated by state law) -- and mysterious independent voters.

While granite makes a great countertop, and being the first primary state gets you lots of national attention, it is those independent voters who are the most valuable asset of this tiny state.

New Hampshire has a lot of indies -- 44 percent of the electorate, compared with 30 percent who are registered Republicans and 26 percent who are registered Democrats. Their numbers have increased by 11 percentage points since the 2000 presidential election -- and they matter.

How do these Granite State Independents trend on the issue of illegal aliens among us citizens?

“Independent voter” is New Jersey slang for a Democrat who wants to show their “sophistication” by not registering as a party member and/or do not want to be hit up for donations by Tony and Vinnie.

Indians, voting Republican? Are these Native Americans, or the Far East variety? ;)

Wooing the "indies" in New Hampshire is done the same way that native Samoans were wooed by missionaries: Glass Beads and Promises of paradise.

I love to see the Dems engaged in their missionary work in New Hampshire. They make sure that all thought is brought to an end and bring about votes by faith healing speeches, designed to inspire the vote from emotion, rather than from logic.

Such a bunch of carpet baggers.

Put the dems on bicycles and make them ride up through the White Mouontains.Bet Hilldebeast wouldn't get far, even if she wore orange. Its hunting season, and a least one person out there would mistake her for the wild animal she already is.

In New Hampshire, there is a political party know as Independent; They are very small in number. The voters the author is referring to are actually "undeclared". Being undeclared gives you the option of which party's primary one can vote in; this is useful in local elections.

In any case, undeclared voters do not reliably vote Democrat in New Hampshire.

All the liberals that find New Hampshire quaint, and decide to more here from NY and NJ do reliably vote for Democrats.

See: New Hampshire Blues: Massachusetts refugees aren't behind the state's liberal drift.
