Indeed and on the home ownership issue this was started on Margret Thatcher’s watch and continued unabated and increased on every subsequent government. Margret Thatcher's original idea was great, give people the right to own their own property, give massive discounts to council tenant to buy their rented property. The councils were then supposed to use this money to build new and repair existing properties they of course did not. I am amazed that when labour came to power they did not stop the selling off of council houses and rebuild after all that is the natural voters but they wanted the middle class and wanted upper working class to migrate to this category.
I believe now it has got to the point where there is no longer the amount of places to rent either private or council that most people have no choice but to somehow struggle to buy their own property. Many people are home owners who have no experience of this and whilst most cope well there is a growing group where they have no idea on what home ownership means or really costs. They were brought up where if the tap dripped or roof leaked you picked the phone up and the council or landlord sorted it now they are on their own. I believe this is going to lead to slums in the private sector.

Thompson royally blew it on the pro-life issue this morning. He said he doesn’t support a constitutional amendment but that the states should deal with it. Fine. But then he said he doesn’t support criminalization of it which I got to understand includes the states. Where does he stand?? I can’t see his ground.
To: Clara Lou
Exactly, you will get no where picking on our snugs! Her conservative credentials are very well know here.

I don’t question whether snugs is a good conservative. I sense that snugs supports another candidate. The comment to which I reacted was hardly an original and is oft repeated by Rudy McRomney fans.

Fred had a great line when talking about federalism on both abortion and gay marriage. It was to the effect that people, the legislature and governors of the states should have the right to make a decision even if Fred Thompson thinks it’s a bad idea.
Fundamental principles. It’s nice to find someone who has them and expresses them calmly, clearly and consistently.

No, it was not clear. He said it was a states issue then he poo-pooed states criminalizing. So it’s a states issue as long as abortion is not touched? He lost me.
To: snugs
Well, lets hope it all works out,we too here in the US have our share of home ownership issues currently.

Thompson has been against the Pro-Life plank since 1996, so it’s really no surprise. He is politically agnostic on abortion, which is fine, but it eliminates an argument against Giuliani, who also is against the Pro-Life plank.

This is getting silly I do not hope that at all I want the best person to win and the person who can beat Hiliary if he can then I want him to win.
All I have said is that IMHO he is not the man to do so, I may be wrong and if he gets the nomination I hope I am wrong.

Fred clearly, had a bit of a problem with the abortion issue, but hopefully we are beyond the day of single issue candidacy voting.
The only single issue I worry about is keeping her highness out of office.

Personally I would prefer Hunter/Thompson but I realise that Thompson is probably the better know personality if not politically then via Law and Order which may well play in his favour once the primaries are over if he get the nomination.

Yes I knew he was “federalist” on abortion (frankly it’s a cop out to me). Fine. But he looked far weaker than I ever imagined. He basically punted the states as well. I got the impression he could care more or less what becomes of abortion in this country.
Clearly, Thompson does not understand the role he was drafted to fill in this race.
To: rodguy911
If they’re so slick then why have only 4 different Dem held the WH since 1952? Even at that Johnson was in because Kennedy was killed so it’s really only 3 Democrats being elected to the WH since 1952.

All I have said is that IMHO he is not the man to do so
And you have every right to your opinion. My point is that your remarks make it clear A) who you support and B) that you want to create as much doubt about FDT as you can. That's fair in politics. Just understand that your agenda sticks out like a sore thumb. Don't expect people not to comment on it.
