SEN. Hillary Rodham Clinton apparently has hit a speed bump on the way to her coronation.
If Mrs. Clinton is to prevail in the general election she must, as in the primaries, divide to rule. She may get help from petulant conservatives. The polls make it clear that Mr. Giuliani is the Republican most likely to beat Mrs. Clinton. But his nomination could spark three splinter candidacies on the right.
The first could be by a pro-life candidate who is offended by Mr. Giuliani's pro-choice views on abortion. This would be a clear case of cutting off one's nose to spite one's face. The issue of abortion will be settled in the courts. The next president likely will appoint two, and perhaps as many as four, Supreme Court justices. Mr. Giuliani has said he'll appoint judges like Chief Justice John Roberts and Samuel Alito. Mrs. Clinton will appoint judges who will make sure Roe vs. Wade is the law of the land forever.
The second could be an immigration restrictionist. Mr. Giuliani might be the strongest of the Republicans on border security, but his views about illegals who just came here to work are too kind for some.
The third - and the most likely - is that Ron Paul will run on the Libertarian ticket. This should help Republicans, because most of the votes Mr. Paul likely would get would come from moonbats apoplectic about recent successes in Iraq. They are angry with Mrs. Clinton for suggesting she wouldn't withdraw all troops immediately upon taking the oath of office.
A Paul candidacy excepted, the arithmetic of the 2008 election is clear. In a two-candidate race, the Republican wins, especially if the Republican is named Giuliani. In a multiple candidate race, Mrs. Clinton wins.

BRAVO!
ROFL
I dont understand why any of you would rather have Hillary than Rudy.
Our non-support of Rudy doesn't equate to an endorsement of Hillary.
Ron Paul is not going to be President of anything.
Neither will Rudy. At least Paul isn't a pro-abortionist pig.
Same for Duncan Hunter, Fred Thompson and Mitt Romney.
Thompson & Romney, with Hunter as VP, are much more preferable than Rudy.
Do you not remember that we had 8 years of Clinton thanks to that knucklehead in Dallas.
Partly due to Bush I abandoning conservative principles.
ROFL
If Rudy is the nominee...you are not voting?
I'll vote but it won't be for Rudy nor all of the other GOP candidates.
HA!
Yep. All those “principled conservatives” who either don’t vote or vote for Ron Paul “to send a message” will give this country to the socialists.
There are certainly plenty of Republicans pushing for this too. Perhaps not for the same reason, so they can elect more Democrats to office, but, pushing for it nevertheless, to pay their globalist business buddies with cheap labor in exchange for campaign contributions for their loser campaigns. Those 20 million legalized illegals and their 40+ million relatives will be voting the same Republicans out of their cushy jobs, but the RINOs either haven't noticed or think they'll be so well compensated for a job well done, they won't need to be re-elected.
So very true. Ron Paul voters seriously need to reevaluate their priorities and those here their place in this forum.
ROFLOL!
Well who?
I don't prefer Hillary to Rudy. I don't want either one since one is as bad as the other IMO. Rudy, however, would be more damaging to conservative values in the long run since there would no longer be a Republican party to use as a vehicle for a conservative agenda.
Right now I’m supporting Paul but will support the GOP nominee if it’s Thompson or Romney (and they have to pick a conservative VP)
Actually, you could say, if Hillary wins, that Perot would be responsible for giving us the TWO most immoral presidents in our history. If Clinton #1 hadn’t won, we wouldn’t be talking about Hillary today.
Paul's not running as a 3rd party candidate. He has said so multiple times. The author of the article is feeding you a lie.
Remember 3rd Party gave us Clinton. Bush gave us 3rd Party. Giuliani = Bush = 3rd Party. No Giuliani no 3rd party.
That only Rudy can beat Clinton is an urban legend.
bttt
Giuliani will re-define it out of existence. He is the only one out there who can do that.

I’m not a Gulliani supporter but if you think he’s as bad as a Clinton you’ve lost your mind. Make no mistake about it, a vote for a third party candidate IS a vote for Hillary Clinton. And if you can live with that you’re just a sunshine conservatine anyway.
