Duane "Dog" Chapman's tape-recorded tirade has cost him his TV show.
"Dog the Bounty Hunter" has been pulled off the air by A&E, the cable network announced Friday. The network stopped short of saying the show was canceled, apparently leaving open the possibility of a return with new episodes or reruns.
"In evaluating the circumstances of the last few days, A&E has decided to take Dog The Bounty Hunter off the network's schedule for the foreseeable future," A&E said in prepared statement. "We hope that Mr. Chapman continues the healing process that he has begun."
The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that Yum Brands, which advertised Taco Bell, KFC and Pizza Hut on "Dog the Bounty Hunter," had pulled all of its ads, calling Chapman's comments "despicable."
Production of the Hawaii-based reality show was suspended earlier this week after it was reported that Chapman made repeated racial slurs in a tape-recorded phone conversation with his son, Tucker.
"Dog the Bounty Hunter" went on the air in 2004 and was one of A&E's highest rated shows, averaging 1.2 million viewers in primetime.
Chapman, who owns Da Kine Bail Bonds in downtown Honolulu, has apologized for repeatedly using a racial slur to refer to his son's girlfriend, who is African American.
The Associated Press reported on Friday that Tucker Chapman taped the phone call with his father, and sold it to the National Enquirer, which posted the tape on its Web site on Wednesday.
I gave it 3 months in an earlier post. However I wouldn't have talked to Al, Jackson ETC. I would have said I'm sorry for using that word, trying hard not to use it & I don't trust or like my son's girlfriend. He didn't want to go by my rules so I fired him & he now is using this tape to get money.
I don't think his show ought to even go off the air & I am no fan of it. Saw it a few times. Since when do they ever condemn rappers?
Yes I listen to the tape. I heard Dog tell his son that he could no longer work with him as long as he dated that girl. He also made some statement that went like; “I’m not going to lose everything because some fucking N——r heard us say the word Ni—er.” Enough there for me to make up my mind, along with A&E.
Oh mine..Why thanks.
Okay so the Dog is a Stupid, Racist, Felon and Murderer.
Not the type of Dog I would want working for me.
Oh, you absolutely nailed it, T Texan!
So, there isn’t PC even among those who are offended on either side.
At least Dog had the good sense to keep it private.
His son had to betray a private confidence for small bits of money to make this an issue.
You are welcome. That was perfect.
And he never asked you. You’re a judgemental PC, never said nothing to anybody that might offend somebody, wonderful speciman. GD
He has been a target for a while since he prays with his catches. His son is a real piece of work.
Pray for W and Our Troops
All he got was $15k? What an idiot. Some guy on BOR said "I'm not saying but it is a lot." $15k is peanuts.
Sadly I think you are correct.
It will really go fast if he is a druggie.
With the cost of living in Hawaii it will go fast if he pays rent, buys food and smokes cigarettes. No entertainment, no car, no girlfriend, no beer. $15k might last a year that way if he rents a shack and eats Spam.
It's a business. The show is just extra!
So you'd sell out your dad if he made racial comments. You're as much a loser as Dog's son.
Couldn't agree more on the PC BS. How many doors does this open to abuse of privacy? Will people who don't like this public figure or that one follow them around with tape recorders or even plant listening devices in their residences just hoping to catch them saying something unacceptable in a private conversation? IMO A&E is simply adding grease to the slippery slope.
Very much so and is also a violation of scripture as this falls under the heading of uncovering the nakedness of your father. There was no honorable intent to what Tucker did.
That came to mind with me also. I’m glad you posted it.
No, I have never called anyone a N1663R.
And if I called someone a N1663R and my employer heard about it on national TV I would likely be fired as well.
A&E made the right call by running the Dog off.
