CNN Plugs Pro-Gun Control Republican State Senator (Wife of Rep. Tom Davis)

CNN’s "The Situation Room," a program not known for featuring state legislators, did a live interview on Thursday of "little-known" Virginia state senator, Republican Jeannemarie Devolites-Davis, whose liberal stance on gun control earned her the endorsement of Michael Bloomberg. The New York City mayor appeared with Devolites-Davis during the interview. As CNN correspondent Deborah Feyerick put it during a report preceding the interview, "Today, the newly turned Independent threw his personal support behind friend and fellow gun critic Jeannemarie Devolites-Davis, a Virginia state senator trying hard to get re-elected. His endorsement of a little-known legislator is rare for a man used to playing on a larger stage."

Host Wolf Blitzer introduced Feyerick’s report by highlighting Bloomberg’s apparent influence and his shared ideology with Davis. "...[T]he biggest city mayor is lending his muscle to a lawmaker in another state. Their common cause -- gun control."

...Neither Blitzer nor Feyerick mentioned that Devorites-Davis is the wife of U.S. Representative Tom Davis of Virginia, a "moderate" Republican Even with Feyerick’s "possesed" line and Blitzer’s questions, one can speculate whether one of the ways a state senator, especially a Republican, can get on CNN is run to on a gun control platform.

I guess this shows what kind of Republican CNN likes - a female, divorced, pro-gun control, Washington Post-endorsed state senator.

The MSM will ALWAYS boost a liberal Republican.

We need some standards, the way things are Hilary could put an “R” after her name, and get away with it.

And in what SHOULD be a lesson to the republicans who say we just need to pick more moderate candidates, and then the bitterness will end —

The democrats are SAVAGING JeanMarie. They have a candidate who is relatively pro-gun, and they are vigorously defending him against her gun attacks.

We need to learn that they hate us because they are a hateful party, not because of what we stand for.

Unfortunately, we need JeanMarie to win or else we will lose the senate, and without the senate we will lose re-apportionment, and that will mean we could lose the next decade.

Tom Davis shifted over $400,000 to her campaign the other day. She is still better than the Dem candidate and is at least backing the Prince William County stance on illegal immigration.

VA is an open carry state and allows concealed/open carry in more places than perhaps any other state. The concealed carry license is also easy and fast to get. (Last time I lived in VA, I had a ccw before the law allowed me to buy a gun (30 days)).

So this pro gun control candidate will have an uphill battle.

The state could be re-districted in a way that could make it impossible for us to take back the senate, and to lose the house. That would last at least a decade to the next redistricting. We’d hope that in the interim the democrats would screw up again so bad that once again the voters would turn to republicans.

We threw out our RINOS, but at the moment it is hit or miss if we can get the conservatives elected in their place.

How would you rate the Va GOP chances of keeping the state senate? Fred Banres claims that the Rodents have a better than 50-50 chance at sezing control.
