Who Irritates You At Work?
Screamers, Gossipers, Top Most Irritating Co-Worker List
Shirkers, screamers and gossipers are the most irritating co-workers, according to a new survey.
Ceridian, one of the world's largest human resource service providers, identified the top 10 most irritating people at work; the findings arrive ahead of National Stress Awareness Day on Nov. 7.
Shirkers - people who come up with endless excuses to not work - took top honors stressing out the most workers, almost a quarter of the 1,004 surveyed.
Coming in at second place are screamers -- who throw tantrums and arguments in open spaces; The third most irritating co-workers are gossipers who talk behind colleagues' backs and exclude people from conversations.
Also in the top 10 are whiners who never see the positive in any situation; megaphones who talk loudly on the phone; hijackers who hijack meetings by discussing irrelevant topics; wanderers who take long coffee and smoking breaks; slurpers, the noisy beverage drinkers, eaters and gum chewers; sneezers, the people who come to work sick; and swearers.
The survey also found that only eight percent of workers surveyed asked their boss for help with the stress at work, while 58 percent of employees suffered in silence.
Sitcoms such as the "The Office" portray these behaviors as humorous personality quirks, but in a real office situation, it's no laughing matter.
Stressful disruptive behavior can lead to stressed out office workers, which in turn affect morale, productivity and eventually, the bottom line.
Oh, and I forgot, “re-double your effort”. What a pile of corporate-speak hogcrap. Rrraaalllppphhh
People who don't wash their hand after taking a leak and then handle the ice cube machine and fridge.
Speaker phones in general drive me nuts. Anyone who uses it when there is no one else who needs to hear the conversation should be fired on the spot (and then shot at sunrise.)
How about co-workers who don't wash their hands after stepping up to the urinal?
(shiver!)
You are so lucky to be retired because “it’s a win win”, “think outside the box”, and “there’s no I in team,” are alive and well in America’s workplace!
The other annoying work personality is the person who wants a medal or praise for doing something that is part of their job anyway. “You should thank me because I sorted the mail!”
HR fibbed. They exist and when they run out of PTO they beg others for donations.
Amen.
Costanza, is that you?
A - freaking - men. I'm annoyed as heck that the kids even have so many stupid fundraisers. My kids have been in school 2.5 months and are already on their second fundraiser. There are also the two spring fundraisers. Why am I paying school taxes?
My kids are upset that I won't take their fundraisers to work. I'm trying to teach them that it's not their job to become the school's little sales force.
The gossipy leftist, of course.
As do I. This really annoys me. You're so busy and all-important you have to take a call while dropping a deuce? Give me a break.
I'll burst a blood vessel trying to make some extra noise when I hear this sort of thing going on. Just once I want to hear one of these clowns 'fess up that they're in the can---that'll make the person on the other end of the line feel all cuddly.
Thank God for "The Office," the funniest show in years. Talk about low-hanging fruit that's just been out there for the taking.
I refuse to do my kid’s fundraisers either. My oldest turned hers back in with just one magazine order from yours truly which is a real joke because it’s going to raise money for her 8th grade class trip which I’m going to be paying for anyway. LOL
What about backstabbers? The people who are so insecure about their own position that, once in a minor position of authority, they set about eliminating anyone who might seem more competent than themselves.
Looking for a US source.
I had one dork boss who kept talking to me after I shut the stall door to take a dump....May I have a moment here jerk wad?
Yes, yes, a thousand times, YES! You'd think they'd pick up on our body language, like looking at our watches and staring out the window, but NO! They ratchet up the minutiae!
I worked in an office of D.C. lawyers and PhDs so many days were like Wayne’s World on drugs.
That's very perceptive. In fact, that is what is intended. Remember the old term? "Personnel"? People. People, as opposed to 'human animals' to be used for the benefit of the corporation. The term human resources derives from behavioral psychology.
