LOS ANGELES - Bob Barker famously closed each episode of "The Price Is Right" with a pitch to spay and neuter pets. His successor is taking a stand on a more controversial subject: marijuana. Drew Carey won't tout toking up on "Price," but he defends the use of medical marijuana in a video posted online Thursday on Reason.tv.
"Smell that smell," the 49-year-old comedian says as he walks into a Los Angeles medical marijuana dispensary. "That's the smell of freedom."
The video is one of 20 Carey will host for the Reason Foundation, a nonprofit educational group whose ideas "some people call libertarian" and whose mission is to "advance freedom," said president David Nott.
Carey offered to produce brief documentaries on topics ranging from traffic congestion to immigration for the foundation's Web site, Nott said.
"Drew Carey connects with regular people. ... He has a regular guy's look at things, and that's why this seems like a great thing," he said. "We're interested in freedom across the spectrum, and good journalism about these subjects is important in the world of ideas."

Not surprising. Carey is well known for his love of skunk and hookers.
As do I. It was the ONLY thing that helped my wife through her 2 bouts of breast cancer. You have no idea how heartbreaking it is to stay up all night, constantly emptying the "bucket" so it can be used again & again.
At least he’s not a Liberal.
Good for him.
It’s about time the whole “Marijuana is the DEBIL !!!” bullshit stopped.
If it works for her: great. We always hear about certain segments of the population that get relief from nausea.
He’s also well known for standing up for his own rights and not letting anyone infringe on his rights when he’s not infringing on others rights.
Marijuana helped my mother with her nausau and not be so looped that she couldn’t enjoy the last few months with her family. The other nauseau drugs knock you out.
Ready for the flaming of me and my mother who went to church for her whole life and was a hard choice to try it. I urged her. I told her “Mama, people who smoke for cancer don’t smoke to get high, they smoke to get by”. She tried it and it worked. At least until the very very end. Then nothing helped.
P.S. But the five months she had AWAKE with her grandchildren, husband and me were worth it.
I can’t argue with that.
Anyway, it was an good documentary that seemed to showed both sides, IMHO.
He’s also known for being a damn fine Marine and raising more than a little cash for Marine families.
Good for Carey. It’s insane to have to ask the government for permission to consume a plant, especially if you are dying of cancer.
That’s a mouthful.
Ditto.
Go Drew.
Oddly I find myself mentioning Showtime twice on the same thread! One of the first things I watched on Showtime when we ordered it was a documentary by a comedian who 'gave in' to Carey's asking him to join and entertain the troops. It was awesome, and of course I can't remember the name of it!
I already like Carey, his tv shows and his stand up. He's a stand up guy and my 'daughter of a WWII B-17 Pilot' hat is off to him. Like Gary Sinese (sp??), he's out there doing his thing for the troops without hordes of media coverage and pomp and circumstance.
Anyone that would flame that is a “pure male donkey” with a hole.
Experiencing that would likely change opinions.
For the most part, it shouldn't be smoked. There are other ways to get the benefits of it without adding the harm of repeatedly filling lungs with smoke to an already sick person.
This is the only issue the Dems have right. The Repubs come off as jackboots on this one... because they are.
