The euro, worth 83 cents in the early George W. Bush years, is at $1.45.
The British pound is back up over $2, the highest level since the Carter era. The Canadian dollar, which used to be worth 65 cents, is worth more than the U.S. dollar for the first time in half a century.
Oil is over $90 a barrel. Gold, down to $260 an ounce not so long ago, has hit $800.
Have gold, silver, oil, the euro, the pound and the Canadian dollar all suddenly soared in value in just a few years?
Nope. The dollar has plummeted in value, more so in Bush's term than during any comparable period of U.S. history. Indeed, Bush is presiding over a worldwide abandonment of the American dollar.
Is it all Bush's fault? Nope.
The dollar is plunging because America has been living beyond her means, borrowing $2 billion a day from foreign nations to maintain her standard of living and to sustain the American Imperium.

Agreed. We have seen this in the television industry in the early 90's.
The Taiwanese of all people busted Zenith on this long ago..it was adding only $7.50 of value at the "U.S.-assembly" end of all the high-value componentry which was made outside of the country.
Interesting how the apologists for deindustrialization are so damned ignorant of manufacturing and what is really entailed. They really appear to be some kind of creatures lie the "Eloi" out of H.G. Wells future depicted in "The Time Machine".
It is fitting that he was willing to conclude how the eloi wound up ultimately...which of course got censored:
An extract from the 11th chapter of the serial published in New Review (May, 1895) was censored from the book, as it was thought too disturbing. This portion of the story was published elsewhere as The Grey Man.The censored text begins with the Traveller waking up in his Time Machine after escaping the Morlocks. He finds himself in the distant future of an Earth that is unrecognizable, seeing rabbit-like hopping herbivores near him. He stuns or kills one with a rock, and upon closer examination realizes they are probably the descendants of the Eloi. A gigantic, centipede-like arthropod approaches and the traveller advances ahead in time a day to flee, finding the creature to have apparently eaten the tiny humanoid. This dark ending of humanity was thought too shocking to be published.
Perhaps you are unaware of where $10 billion of Chinese auto parts are going?
What is this, another game of lame-o protectionist “gotcha?” I sold my Chevy years ago. I’m driving German now. The parts may be more expensive, but I don’t have to deal with GM crap anymore, Chinese or otherwise.
Try going to USA Made sites.
You want me to search for proof of your claim? LOL!
Put down the Krispy Kremes and find your own proof. Maybe EPI can help you?
I found two U.S. TV manufacturing facilities after maybe 90 seconds using Google. That’s why the subject shifted to “assembly.” Mr. Ross just hasn’t caught up (yet).
You are the victim of your own "Gotcha".
You are so incredibly busted.
Nope. Assembly does not count. You have to make the components.
How quaint. That is SO 19th Century. I don’t mind you trying to bring me back. Really.
I'm afraid you'll have to elaborate. Afraid, because it'll make you look stupid.
Excellent. How much of China's manufacturing suddenly doesn't count? 90%? 95%?
I couldn’t get serious about this scribe as soon as I saw the first two gross error by pat. 1 GBP was over $2.00 in 1992 (not 30 years ago), and 2 CAD was at parity in 1976, not 50 years ago. I might take Pat a little more seriously if he was at least smart enough to do his own fact checking. I remembered Canada Dollar parity and i’M NOT YET 50, and I have worked the FX markets, and knew they he was wrong on the Pound. Jeese Pat get a life.
Already proved.
Your claims were debunked. YOU can't deny it!
Put down the Krispy Kremes and find your own proof.
Now you are waddling around still here at Free Republic with your 500-pound turds still smearing up the joints. You need to lay off the fat sauce. I am amazed you have the energy to pick your nose.
Maybe EPI can help you?
Why don't you read what has already been cited? Oh, that's right. It contradicted you. And your brain is too fat to recognize it. So you ignore it.
Pat Buchanan supporters are not known for their FOREX expertise. Not here on FR, at least. (I suppose it’s theoretically possible elsewhere).
I posted Census Bureau data, you claimed
"...things which we don't even make: TVs & VCR, DVD players, etc. None. NONE. Yet our vaunted commerce dept is taking credit for "exports" there..."
You see, big guy, you have to prove your claim. Use those greasy stubby fingers of yours and prove it.
Maybe after he's done eating. It could take a while.
Muck = Much, man I have fat fingers tonight.
Looks like I have to wait for the arraignment. The arresting officer won’t tell me why I was arrested. (Am I in a U.S. jurisdiction?)
I'll elaborate on their assertion, though I didn't make it. I live in a small rural town full of closed down and rotting textile mills and furniture factories that have shut down in the past 12 years. We are at 30% unemployment in one of the counties nearby. I can't speak for the nation when it comes to the benefits or drawbacks of our trade policies, but it has been terrible for us here. The only time the grocery stores around here are busy is either on government check or 'food stamp' day. I make it a point to avoid stores around here on those days.
Yes, unless you're on the NAFTA highway.
