Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson suggested on Thursday that Democratic rival Hillary Rodham Clinton's lack of clarity in her debate answers raises questions about her ability to handle diplomacy.
Addressing a crowd of Republican donors, the former Tennessee senator joined Clinton's Democratic opponents in seizing on her debate answer on whether she supported a plan by New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer to grant drivers' licenses to illegal immigrations.
At first, Clinton appeared to praise the plan. Pressed later in the debate, she seemed to backtrack, saying she didn't say it should be done. Her campaign sought to clarify her comments on Wednesday, saying she supported the governor's effort.
"Yes, it's about Hillary, and we have our fun, but it's also about something else," Thompson said. "When our worst enemy sits down at the negotiating table and looks across the table ... how much can they get away with, how much of what they're hearing is really true? Are they going to mean what is said on the other side of the table? The question is, 'Who do we want on the other side of that table facing them?'"
Thompson said he opposes granting drivers' licenses to illegal immigrants.
"It just like sanctuary cities, saying 'Well, (illegal immigrants) are here, you know, we might as well just throw up our hands, there's nothing you can do about it anymore,'" he said.
The former Tennessee senator also mocked Clinton's performance with a baseball reference more likely to come from GOP rival Rudy Giuliani, the former New York mayor.
"I never thought that I would see Joe Torre be the manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers. And I never thought I'd see Hillary Clinton get pinned down and have to answer a controversial question," Thompson said.
Torre is the former New York Yankees manager who is talking with the Dodgers about their job.
Nevada holds its caucuses on Jan. 19, but the state hasn't attracted the same amount of attention as the other early voting states of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. Thompson, who entered the presidential race about two months ago, was making his first public appearance in the state.
The Nevada Republican Party fundraiser was held in a country-themed night club with bikini bull riding and the "HOTTEST cowboys and cowgirls that Las Vegas has to offer."
On Thursday morning, the club hosted about 100 Republicans, including Gov. Jim Gibbons, who has not endorsed a candidate.
Fred said some of the same on Sean’s show today. He was great as usual. It will be interesting as Hillary REALLY has to start letting the public know what her plans REALLY are! I believe she is going way down in the polls soon.
It’s simple. She has none.
“And I never thought I’d see Hillary Clinton get pinned down and have to answer a controversial question,” Thompson said.”
Didn’t see the debate, was she clearly pinned in the actual question etc?
When the diplomats are too gutless to do the work they are required to do, how does Hillary expect to rely on diplomacy to solve anything?
Fred Thompson ‘08!
Wow. Well done. Fred!
Yes, I think Tim “Randy Quaid” Russert forgot he was a liberal activist for a minute. Reading between the lines, though, and knowing the power of the media, they are figuring out that Hillary could never win and are trying to derail her before the nomination. The fix is in - as always, for the democrats - and hillary will be smashed by the media in the coming months. I’m afraid the media has caught on to our greatest hope - that the dopes in the Democrat party would actually nominate this charlatan.
“...she is going way down in the polls soon.”
I don’t think so. Her die-hard supporters feel more sympathy with her now as she has claimed she has been ganged up on by the men. She is the lone woman fighting the chauvinist attackers.
Aside from abortion, the issues don’t matter to her femi-nazi supporters. What counts is her ability to fight, or appear to fight in the campaign. But hopefully enough of her base will by election time see her ineptness.

I wonder if Hillary had one of her thugs escort Tim Russert to his car. Maybe a little pushin and shoving for the embarassment he caused her....
LOL. I am really liking Fred as a communicator. So few words, so much said...

He’s just putting out these gems at a steady pace. I think he’s a mudder who is going to close a lot faster than people think.
Agreed. The more shrill the presstitutes and RINO candidates become, the more evident that will be...
Don’t anyone think for a second that this story will have any legs. The LSM will move away from this in a day and there will never be a Meme created. If this were a Republican they would work this into every story between now and election day.......Candidate Thompson, who once said in a debate.....was in town today to open a new bridge. Canditdate Thompson, who said.......in an earlier debate....was talking to at the local senior center today, etc.
Bang...
The snipper takes another shot...

If you think the MSM will smash Hillary in the coming months, who do you think they will push to win the Democrat Nomination? Do you think they will get Al Gore to jump in? That would sure have to happen pretty quicky.
As always, I search daily for your newest post. Thank you so much for your dedication. This is the winning issue when you tie it to National Security. It will thin this bunch out soon I hope.
