MADRID, Spain - Spain's National Court convicted the three main suspects in the Madrid commuter train bombings of mass murder Wednesday and sentenced them to tens of thousands of years in prison for Europe's worst Islamic terror attack.
But the verdict was a mixed bag for prosecutors, who saw four other key defendants convicted of lesser offenses and an accused ringleader acquitted altogether.
With much of the case resting on circumstantial evidence, the three judges may have been wary after a number of high-profile Spanish terror cases were overturned on appeal.
Spain's prime minister said the verdict still upheld justice. But victims of the attack, which killed 191 people and wounded more than 1,800 when bombs exploded on four trains on March 11, 2004, expressed shock and sadness over the court's decision.
"The verdict seems soft to us," said Pilar Manjon, who lost her 20-year-old son in the attack and has become a leader of a victims association. "I don't like it that murderers are going free."
Three lead suspects Jamal Zougam and Othman Gnaoui of Morocco and Emilio Suarez Trashorras of Spain were convicted of murder and attempted murder and received prison sentences ranging from 34,000 to 43,000 years. Under Spanish law, the most they will spend in jail is 40 years. Spain has no death penalty or life imprisonment.

So mass murder of 191 people (while trying for many more deaths) is only good for a max. sentence of 40 years.... and other jihad terrorists get off with lesser sentences or even an acquittal. The WOT cannot be managed decently in civilian courts.
Then vote out of office your current government.
And there you have Liberalism in a nutshell. The solution/sentence sounds good but when you actually look at the details, it's nowhere near adequate and in all probability will cause more problems than it was supposed to solve.
That’s not a trial it’s an immunization.
By being this soft, the Spanish are inviting more attacks.
True. But the only way they will learn is by being hit with more attacks. Sad, but true.
The heck with this s@#$! Gen. Francisco Franco, please pick up the red phone.
As far as Europe goes, Atoche Station was the most dangerous place I have ever been in. I say it was an inside job..

There is a reason why you “kill people.” You want it to be irreversible and permanent; that’s the point! The whole lock them up and throw away the key argument always has been and is nonsense. The true victims in such cases get slapped in the face and often are confronted with no opportunity for closure. There is a reason why the families of victims often attend executions.
There are crimes committed that are premeditated, conducted by people with no remorse, and in full conscience of mind that are so heinous that death is about the only appropriate punishment and form of incapacitation there is. There are evil people and the liberal inherently denies this basic reality.
“...be managed decently in civilian courts.”
That’s the whole point. This ruling encourages vigilante justice. Mob lynching follows.
Then the communist government will have the excuse to take more power via martial law.
The Spanish are upset by these verdicts, but believe me, no mob lynchings will follow.
I was pretty sure a large number of these guys were going to get off, simply because the Spanish press is very pro-Islamist. Our good little Muzzie brethren couldn’t possibly have hated us enough to do this, right? But then again, our beloved ETA leftists couldn’t have done it either, so that means nobody did it. It just kind of happened. And it was probably the fault of the victims anyway.
But..but..they brought their troops home, that's all the bombers wanted, right?
