It's one thing to set fire to The Man at the Burning Man festival a few days early -- at least the effigy is built to be burned, albeit at a specific hour.
But Paul Addis, the guy who bummed out thousands of burners by torching The Man before festival participants were ready for it, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of trying to torch a historic cathedral in San Francisco. Here's a slice from the story:
(Edit)
On the one hand, I can understand the power of the image to someone who sees the church as an oppressive institution. On the other hand...it's still arson. And given how fires can get out of hand, there's a chance that this little stunt could have damaged other property and hurt some folks.

This columnist is a colossal ARSe.
SAN FRANCISCO Alleged Burning Man arsonist accused of trying to burn Grace Cathedral
Sadly, she represents what we have come to expect from the hard-Left Seattle P.I.
Perhaps we should send Paul over to the Parvaz home for a command performance!
The notion that the Church is still an “oppressive institution” must exist only among those who have never heard of the Reformation.
The notion that the Church is still an “oppressive institution” must exist only among those who have never heard of the Reformation.
How is an Episcopal church an oppressive institution? Maybe they’re dragging guys off the street and gay-marrying them against their will or something.
Although your sentiments are honorable, virtuous and just, I would only wish to suggest that this would have the effect of merely having her insurance company buy her a new house and would position her as a martyr among Seattle's Left..
I could wish a firing and an industrywide blacklisting upon her as well as about 99% of the other "writers" at the P.I. but upon reflection I'm thinking that her presence and continued openly Marxist, hateful hysteria which spews from her sick mind serves to further alienate the (few) remaining sane folks in Seattle from the P.I.
My hope is that the P.I. will not only die an economic death due to it's endlessly-dwindling readership, but a completely dishonorable death whose hallmark is of it being openly ridiculed as completely without the slightest passing glance in the direction of intellectual value by even Seattle's rainbow flag-waving liberals.
My guess would be that D. Parvaz is so full of incoherent hate directed against any and all religions (except Islam, I'll wager) that it wouldn't make any difference, as the mere existence of anything even suggestive of a 'traditional' Western Church would be regarded as "oppressive" for reasons that she would be delighted to manufacture out of thin air and loudly scream at anyone who would listen..
I would assume that such a policy would be met with squeals of delight and heralded as a sign of 'true enlightenment' by D. Parvaz.
Would this columnist also “understand” how abortionists KILL BABIES every day and how someone might be upset about this enough to engage in an illegal vigilante act against this legal but immoral practice?
There are FReepers who don’t go to church to swear that preachers (and televangelists) go on and on in their seromons about how sodomites are going to HELL.
I haven’t seen it. They tend to stick to lessons that apply to the bulk of church goers, not the 1% minority who think that their sin should be celebrated.
Of course, the modern dinosaur media could also be viewed as an oppressive institution. One wonders if the editors would be as supportive of their facilities being torched. If it is good for the goose...
This is why I stopped buying the P.I. a long time ago. Also stopped watching the local abc/nbc/cbs so-called news.
D. Parvaz offends me as a symbol of the oppressive nature of those who are supremely stupid. I guess using his logic we should be able to burn him down.
