LOS ANGELES — Robert Goulet, the handsome, big-voiced baritone whose Broadway debut in "Camelot" launched an award-winning stage and recording career, has died. He was 73.

The singer died Tuesday morning in a Los Angeles hospital while awaiting a lung transplant, said a Goulet spokesman in an e-mail.

He had been awaiting a lung transplant at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after being diagnosed with a rare form of pulmonary fibrosis in September.

Oh man, I’m depressed. I’ll always remember his rendition of ‘Jingle Bells...Batman Smells...” on the Simpsons.

And of course playing the voice of Wheezy at the end of “Toy Story.”

RIP Robert.

Hope he outlived Claudine Longet!!

Funny piece of Longet trivia:

After the civil suit over the fatal shooting of her lover, the settlement required her to withdraw from circulation her recording of the old Sonny and Cher hit, "Bang Bang My Baby Shot Me Down".

When can I hear you sing that song? I've never heard your wonderful vocals.

All that crawling around on the ceiling at his advanced age surly accelerated his condition.

There are no joints in Utah with piano bars. Now if we go Steelhead fishing on the Klamath river, there’s this place on the way in Redding where back in 75, I did the Lords Prayer. It was a Sunday night of course and I made certain to tell the adoring crowd that there could be no applause as it was the Lord’s day.

I have been following this for over a week, checking his website once a day, hoping for some progress. But sadly, there was none. Otherwise, he was quite 'young' for 73; I wish they found someone to help him. I never met him, although I saw him off-broadway in The Fantasticks, but I could just tell his nice guy persona wasn't an act. He was too good at it to be a phony. Rest in Peace, I will buy a can of Emerald Nuts tonight in your honor.

He was very popular in the 60s. I was in a choral group in high school and my choral teacher started talking to the guys about Robert Goulet and his baritone and we girls started oohing and ahing over those beautiful blue eyes. Our teacher yelled at us since that was not the subject of our discussion, but what did he expect? A great voice that would melt the hardest of hearts and those blue, blue eyes.

I guess I am getting old, but I really miss all those multi-talented entertainers and those great composers like Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Lowe, etc. They teamed up with many a great love song.

I remember that show and liking it as a kid. I tried to find it on Blockbuster with no luck. Do you remember what he said about Blue Light?

Goulet is most famous for flubbing the lines to the Star Spangled Banner ( I don’t remember how) in Lewiston, Maine, in February, 1964 at the Cassius Clay-Sonny Liston heavyweight title fight.

Yes, Blue Light, mid 60’s. I just remember some scene with him in a rowboat on a lake. The review the next day commented that his hair looked like patent leather.

An amazing singer.
