Complaints about religious content have led to a ban on flag-folding recitations by Veterans Administration employees and volunteers at all national cemeteries.
At thousands of military burials, VA volunteers have folded the American flag 13 times and recited the significance of each fold to survivors. The 11th fold glorifies the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The 12th glorifies "God the Father, the Son and Holy Ghost."
Citing a need for uniformity, the National Cemetery Administration has prohibited unpaid VA volunteers as well as employees from conducting the recital at all 125 national cemeteries.
American Legion attorney Rees Lloyd calls it "another attempt by secularist fanatics to cleanse any reference to God."

THIS IS UNBELIEVEABLE!!!
Political correctness has reached its way into the Veterans Administration.

Citing a need for uniformity Why is there a need for uniformity? That doesn't make sense!

I am a retired Army Chaplain. I’ve been through that ceremony more times than I can count. There is nothing wrong with it.
There is also NO WAY that it can be banned.
The chaplain of the honor guard is generally not on active duty with anyone and does not answer to anyone.
I seriously doubt that the “flag police” are going to break up someone’s funeral service.
It is definitely time for civil disobedience.
Besides that, any funeral should be viewed as a service and a family-planned event. Therefore, personal religious sentiment should prevail. If the family doesn’t want it, they don’t do it. If the family doesn’t want Taps, they don’t do it. If the family doesn’t want the Rifle Volley, they don’t do it. I’ve been to too many of these. The family calls the shots. (As it should be.)
There is absolutely nothing here except some overbearing bureaucrat with a thirst for power.
A good congressperson (Duncan Hunter?) should jump all over this!

National Cemetery Association? Who the **** are these people and since when do they have the right to tell American Citizens what to say at a funeral?
To: wagglebee
Already let the Local VFW, American Legion, and Elks know about this they said they;d start hollering at their National HQ’s to apply pressure. Suggest all FReepers do the same.

Isn’t it amazing that this is banned, but the antics of Fred Phelps are Constitutionally protected?

Thank you for your informative post.
“The chaplain of the honor guard is generally not on active duty with anyone and does not answer to anyone.”
“It is definitely time for civil disobedience.”
“The family calls the shots. (As it should be.)”
Nails it right on the head. Worth repeating.

Just to give you all an update (I'm too tired to dig for the actual link at WorldNetDaily - just take it on Uncle Viking's word or look it up yourself): Rees stated that Legion Riverside Post 79 is going to defy the directive, and continue to recite it, anyway. To paraphrase what one of the state officers said, there's 26 million of us - let them try to cart us all off to jail. There's a reason why I am a member, and this is one of them. One sub-simian malcontent will not provide themselves comfort in their self-made Hell at the expense of the rest of us. Suffer, leave, or die. We don't care anymore.
