My only fear is that the Dems will use this as political cover before the 2008 elections in much the same way that they used the Fence Act in 2006 just before the mid-terms. Even Hillary signed on to the Fence Act.

Ah, so they’ll float this out there, then claim that the Republicans blocked it, and the sheep will eat it up.

The catch is, Shuler has voted
for all the other lousy immigration bills which have come up. He believes in this bill like he believes in Truth, Justice, and The American Way. His record so far is following - oh, so closely - with his nose buried well up Pelosi's butt crack.
This is window dressing for his next election to get on the "right side" of this explosive issue. It will never even get out of committee and he knows it. But, he can tout it from the rooftops all through the next election to confuse his hopping mad constituents and those who aren't paying attention.
He surmises it's his ticket to reelection in 2008.

Shuler is the guy our own Congressman Billybob (John Armor) is hoping to run against next year.

First step to solving problem. Treat them like citizens.
Require W-4s and Pay by Check with all tax deductions. Employer paid social security filings.

But during those first three years, current illegal aliens who stayed in the same job would not be affected by the expanding use of E-Verify. Get the Vaseline out! The demorats are about to try amnesty by a different name.

Whats the catch ?
Read the thing, those that came the first three years would not be effected, which means all those that came before that period would not be either.

This is all B.S.. It has been my experience that the SS# that are used by illegals match the name that they are using at the time. My friend, Jackie Rodriguez has been trying to stop an illegal from using her SS# for almost fifteen years. She lives in WA State and the man who uses her name and SS lives near San Francisco and works in a furniture factory. Every year, they have to explain to the IRS why they shouldn’t have to pay taxes on this man’s earnings.

This article is obviously a direct release (or escape) from Congressman Shuler's press office. There is no other source that would throw in the fact that this gentleman was a "runner-up for the Heisman Trophy" while neglecting to say that he washed out of the NFL immediately afterward.
This would probably be a good idea. However, it has not even been introduced, much less gotten through committee, much less gotten onto the floor for an actual vote.
And yes, this is the man I'm running against, in the 11th District of North Carolina.

Here's my announcement of running for Congress in 2008.

This would probably be a good idea. Don't agree with you this time, which is a first. It is amnesty by a different name, see my other posts.

I didn’t read the puppy with care, because it hasn’t even been introduced. It’s only a press release at this time. But if it does contain amnesty provisions, as you say, then I oppose it despite other possible benefits.
Thanks for your comment.

“Whats the catch ?”
It’s this - as the price for putting this on the calendar, the Dem leadership will ask for an amendment, the substance of which will be:
“The provisions of this bill shall not apply to anyone who was in the United States in any status before November 1, 2007.”

Just a ploy so Democrats can claim BOTH sides of the border fence...
Have we learned NOTHING from the 2006 debacle?
