According to records: He had skipped shifts. A woman complained he had sexually harassed her. Supervisors investigated McIver for "having an extramarital affair," a violation of department policy. When confronted by investigators, the officer did not tell the truth.

McIver's problems in Raleigh, and his path after leaving there, are described in documents at the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

Right think Tom Coleman and Tulia, Texas. This is no small deal, police powers are attractive to control freaks.

Did you know your font is on “bold”? You might try doing something with your monitor if you can’t read the print.

True, we have six are seven cops in jail and/or awaiting trial, within 40 miles of where I live. That’s just the scum they have caught, probably ten times that number that are just as corrupt.

I didn’t know there was a certain type of type we were supposed to use... Heavy sigh... Always new (or unknown) rules coming along...

Florida is a notorious dumping ground for disgraced cops from the northeast, and has been for many years.

I didn’t tell him he couldn’t use it. I was wondering if he was aware he had it set to that font. No one is forcing me to read his posts.

Small towns near larger cities have some of the worst of these cops. Pretty obvious when you consider that the large city pays twice the pay, so why are they working within minutes of the bigger city.

North Mississippi is full of these hotheads with badges.

Some start out in small towns and remain there, mainly because they can be their own boss, not necessarily have to answer to any one. This works well with ignorant city councils and mayors who don't understand the wisdom of thorough background investigations.

What's worse is when they aren't just lone losers, but run in packs. There are several of these cliques in the Central Texas area. When one gets hired on to a Department, it isn't long until another, and then another and so forth of the group gets hired on and before long you no longer have a Police Department, but a gang. These guys are not concerned about anything but job security, and whatever it takes to keep a paycheck coming in. Then after a while when things spin out of control, like it always does, and everybody either gets terminated or quits to avoid the axe, the cycle begins over anew.

I get so mad when all the media can do is dump on the Catholic church because 1% of their priests were bad yet the cops and the teachers have far many more bad apples, and yet, they are on sacred ground.....

It's coming around. I don't know about teachers, but I read somewhere that a cop is three times as likely as the average Joe to, sometime in their life, become a felon.

I don't know if there are reliable statistics to back that up, but it's certainly plausible. Not long ago two Eugene cops got in trouble for an ongoing practice of demanding sex from junkie street hookers. The official investigation of the department policies (and lack thereof) that allowed this to go on said the two officers should never have been hired. The investigator faulted the city affirmative action hiring policies that favored Hispanics with blemishes on their background checks over more qualified non minority applicants.

Teachers are also well represented in the local media accounts of arrestees for things like fondling, getting caught with their pants down in the local gay sex pickup zone, and domestic problems with "roommates".

It has been like that for a couple of years. You are one of the few to notice or comment.

I would be happy to use 18th Century Calligraphic ( whatever they called the original Free Republic Font) but I can not seem to master the nuances for a template.

It could be worse, I could use colors- blue, red or 18 point type as seems to be the case with some of the old timers.

Best regards,
