You wouldn't know it from reading the papers, but the favorite to win the Republican presidential nomination is a confirmed right-winger. On issues such as free speech and religion, secrecy and due process, civil rights and civil liberties, pornography and democracy, this moralist and self-styled lawman has exhibited all the key hallmarks of Bush-era conservatism.
That candidate is Rudolph W. Giuliani.
As any New Yorker can tell you, the last word anyone in the 1990s would have attached to the brash, furniture- breaking mayor was "liberal" -- and the second-to-last was "moderate." With his take-many-prisoners approach to crime and his unerring pro-police instincts, the prosecutor-turned-proconsul made his mark on the city not by embracing its social liberalism but by trying to crush it.

I’m voting Republican.
BTW, don’t think that another Clinton presidency will be merely an 8-year hiatus while Conservatives re-trench and march to victory in ‘16.
By the time Hillary gets done, she and her Congress will have guaranteed Democrat supremacy for as long as we remain a country, by assuring that the vote is extended to those that feed off the government teat.
Through entitlements, socialized medicine, legalizing illegals, maneuvering around the Electoral College (bills are already being advanced in some states to force their electors to vote for whomever wins the national popular vote, regardless of the wishes of the citizen of that state), and myriad other socialist tactics.
Including, btw, the return of the Fairness Doctrine.
So I’m voting my conscience in the primaries, where I can afford to, and Republican in the general, where I must.
And just whose fault is that?
The word "conservative" is just a word sound. Con..surrr..vahhh..tive. Say it. It means something, several somethings.
If that word sound is not attached to those somethings, you are voting for the word sound. Sure, Mr. Giuliani may have a couple of con..surrr..vahhh..tive attributes, but every liberal out there does, too.
And if the primary argument, as it appears to be for Mr. Giuliani, for voting for anyone is that not voting for him will elect someone else, red flags should go up and alarms should sound.
Think about this. Maybe we have become too comfortable with our lives in America. Maybe we need someone who will show us the dark side in a way that causes misery. Misery and pain motivate, my friend; it causes changes back to freedom and sanity.
So, don't be afraid to vote for a true con..surrr..vahhh..tive. It is not a word sound at stake; it you integrity as a con..surrr..vahhh..tive, and if it's compromised to elect a flaming liberal to avoid a flaming liberal, so is your integrity.
Then never ever complain when President Clinton II raises your taxes beyond belief, pushes state health care through, makes conservatism a "hate crime" and ensures the pro-death philosophy remains "settled law" after she appoints up to SIX (6) Darth Vader Ginsburgs.
Did you ever read Reagan’s comments on it? No, you’re just going to take the word of Walter Mondale’s speechwriter. It’s interesting to see where you put your blind faith.
It is better to watch where a person’s feet go then where their mouth goes. Reagan signed that bill. Assuming he was the intelligent man I think he is, he understood what and why he was signing.
Dream on if you think you can reverse actions with words.
Look at his record, he is pro gay, anti gun and pro abortion. I do not judge him on what he says, I think he is lying, I judge him by what he has done.
I still can not vote for him anymore then Hitlary.
Horrors. I'm sure the entire electoral machine of the Great American Republic is even now beginning to grind to a halt.
Giuliani doesn’t understand or support the Second Amendment. That issue alone makes his unacceptable, but it’s far from the only one.
And any real New Yorker knows that Giuliani’s endorsement of Cuomo had EVERYTHING to do with Giuliani’s arch-enemy Al D’Amato, who was backing Pataki. It had nothing to do with R vs D, it was pure hardball NY politics...
All the more reason not to trust him...
If I recall correctly, the Dole campaign didn't have a theme. One of the reasons he got pasted, he gave nobody any reason to vote for him. He didn't attack Clinton head on, he didn't offer much of any kind of program, and he was not a conservative to begin with.
No, Rino Rudy will neve be President. He will split the party. I like many others willnever vote for him. They will either stay home or go third party.
There. That wasn't so hard to follow, was it.
Amen. He is an elitist, anti-constitution, fascist bullyboy. I will not cast my vote for him under ANY circumstances.
Not intentionally. But thats what it amounted to.
One of the reasons he got pasted, he gave nobody any reason to vote for him. He didn't attack Clinton head on, he didn't offer much of any kind of program, and he was not a conservative to begin with.
All throughout his campaign were mostly tv commercials that attacked Clinton, and didnt spell out what Dole stood for, what he would do once in office. One time, during the campaign, the news made a big deal in their upcoming broadcasts about a new tv commercial the Dole team were coming out with. Saying that the commercial would be something explosive. Something BIG that would destroy the Clinton campagn once and for all and help Dole to win. Then the news broadcast came on and showed the commercial, which turned out to be nothing more than just another "bash Clinton" commercial. If I had any doubts about Dole losing the election (and I pretty much knew that he would lose the election long before he was the nominee), they were wiped out by that commercial.
Sure. Jim Robinson, who refuses to vote for Giuliani, is a plant from DU.

Heh. It seems there are still a number of Giuliani supporters with us.
