Would you advocate third party or stay home if Huckabee is the candidate?
October 28,2007 | Ebmiller

There is great hostility to Govenor Huckabee by many freepers. Since Rasmussen is including Huckabee in the daily tracking poll, it seems he is gaining some traction. I am curious since many on this site have grave doubts about a Huckabee presidency, how many would go to a third party or would just stay home?

I said little difference between the CANDIDATES

You are basically a liar since you pick a few positions to compare and then on that basis say there is little difference. BS!

am voting on the ISSUES, not for a fancy Madison Avenue designer label... NON-NEGOTIABLE issues: 1. War. 2. Border. 3. Terrorism. 4. 2nd Amendment.

Giuliani can go to hell...

Only a flaming IDIOT would help elect someone (any RAT) who is against their 4 NON-NEGOTIABLE issues, instead of someone who is a big winner on two of them, such as Giulini with the war and terrorism.

>> A pro-illegals nominee ? Fuhgeddaboutit. <<

Huckabee has dropped his past support for illegal aliens and has now come out AGAINST the Senate amnesty proposal and supported a fence. Is that a flip-flop? Yep. And your guy Fred has done exactly the same thing. Until 2007, Fred favored giving "aspirations of citizenship" to illegals and voted for one of the 90s era mini-amnesties to legalize nearly one million illegal aliens when he was in the Senate.

Obviously, if Huckabee's "past record" on illegal aliens makes him unacceptable, the fact Fred voted against common sense immigration to crack down on illegals and favored "aspiriations of citizenship" for them(ultimately earning a lifetime "D" rating on "Preventing Illegal Alien Amnesties) means we should vote "third party" if he's the nominee.

Oh, I forgot. Your "deal breaker" issues don't apply to Fred.

=====================================================================

Click on those threads and you'll see Governor Huckabee working hand-and-hand with FR and members having nothing but praise and support that Huckabee was such a good friend of our forum. He was utterly worshipped here for mocking liberal beliefs that people don't mind being taxed into obivion by coming up with the name "Tax Me More" fund. He was even given the nickname "the freeper Governor" as an honor for being the only Governor in the nation to be actively involved with FR. This was 2005, the Huckster had already been Governor of Arkansas for NINE YEARS at the time.

Amazing how NOBODY on this forum pointed out what an awful, evil, RINO, nanny-state, illegal alien loving, Clintonite governor he was when the guy was actually IN office, eh? You'd think with such a horrid RINOish record, JimRob wouldn't want him anywhere near our event. After all, some on this forum are now saying they wouldn't even vote for him over the Hilderbeast.

Lots of retconning going on here on FR.

Have you ever heard of Dale Carnegie? He might be able to teach something about winning people over to your way of thinking. Whether you could learn is another story.

I picked the issues that are important to me and there is little difference.

I used to have reasonably high opinions of Huckabee, but lately that has changed.

Rudy was a good mayor and Huckabee did pretty good as governor, neither will earn my vote — based on their stance on the most important issues to me — for president.

I would never vote for a third party. I would also never vote for Giuliani. If we have a candidate with a phony veneer of Social Conservatism and Fiscal Conservatism we do not destroy the Conservative element in the Republican party because it will be generally understood that the candidate who had to put on a fake Conservative Suit had to appeal to conservatives in recognition that liberalism will lose him critical support for the administration if he wins the election. If Giuliani wins the nomination and the election as the neon-lit Liberal that he is, it will show that conservatives no longer have ANY influence in the party. If he wins the nomination but loses the election it will show once again that a Republican MUST work for the Conservative vote.

If any of these other half baked Conservatives wins it shows we still have the ultimate say-so in the party and the new president will have to do what he must to keep Conservative support.

A third party effort will have a result similar to electing Giuliani. Conservatives will have taken themselves out of the party and out of influence. From that point on Conservatives will be locked into third party mode and/or irrelevance. They will have lost any influence they might have had on a major party for a lo-o-o-ong time.

You cannot separate the war and terrorism with borders and the 2nd Amendment...

We have a CONSTUTIONAL RIGHT to protect ourselves and the federal government has a CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY to protect the states from invasion and secure our RIGHTS...

Julie-Annie does neither...

Thanks for the post. I’m surprised that any freeper would consider not voting for Huckabee, if he’s the nominee. His site states that his most important issue is securing the border and deporting illegals. He also states that he’s pro-fairtax, pro-life, pro-gun rights, and anti-gay marriage. Two of the last three republican presidents were governors. Huckabee was a governor longer than Bush & Romney, combined.

I like some things about Huckabee: Fair Tax, pro-gun, pro-life. I don’t like some other things: Nanny-state, open borders.

I don’t have to decide, categorically, about him now, because I’ll have other choices in the primary.

Huckabee is the Southern Precious Willard. Why would I support someone like that ? Why would any Conservative in good conscience ? He can’t use some excuse that he was “pandering” to a liberal constituency, either. His record was piss-poor.

Any one of the Republican candidates running would be better than our current president and would certainly be infinitely better than Obama or Hillary or Edwards anyway.

I’d vote for Huckabee if he were the GOP nominee.
