DOLLAR SKY IS FALLING! DOLLAR SKY IS FALLING! EVERYONE PANIC!
10/25/2007 | Philistone

To read the MSM headlines (which I try not to) the falling dollar is the end of the world. Maybe Wall Street should get a Noble Prize for their work in "Global Dollar Cooling". But seriously, what are the effects of a weak dollar?

1) Increased exports. Last month's exports were among the highest on record. Trade deficit? What trade deficit? Boeing, Caterpiller, Microsoft, Apple, etc. all with surges in foreign export sales.

2) Outsourcing? What outsourcing? All of the sudden it becomes cheaper to employ an American technician than one from Bangalore.

3) Cost of living? (I love this part!) Since China has pegged the Yuan to the Dollar, everything we get from China costs exactly the same! Maybe this will convince them to unlink the Yuan. Then we'll REALLY see who's the best producer.

4) Buhh... buhh... buhh... but foreigners will stop buying American Treasuries! What? In order to buy Russian ones? Chinese ones? Venezualian ones? Give me a break.

A weak Dollar equals: more exports, more jobs, more tourists (spending money) and the same or higher standard of living.

Bring it on!

What difference does it make?

The same difference not selling as much of something as you can makes.

What motivated the 1973 oil embargo by Middle Eastern OPEC members? It was not an economic, capitalistic, free enterprising decision. What was the effect on us? We're still feeling it, are we not?

Because our political leaders have handed our balls to the Chinese, all they need do is squeeze them just a little bit. They don't need to crush them.

Heck, we might just hand over Taiwan.

Not a mind reader. There are lots of alternatives that begin to make sense at $5o a barrel. The problem is that they are VERY expensive to start up. Anyone who did so just to find oil dropping back to $40 would get his shorts shoved up his nostrils....

>>Our House and Senate has been bought and paid for by big companies who want cheap labor. Why? because their bonuses are tied to the stock market, so every quarter, they whore everything to get their dough.<<

Every fallen empire in history can attibute their fall to one of three things:

1. Money
2. Power
3. Sex

And not one of those ‘leaders’ took one iota with them when they expired.

Are there any future ‘leaders’ out there who can’t be bought?

What, exactly, does China provide us?

I’ve had this discussion a Brazillian times.

China is the cute little restaurant that opens down the street. Everyone goes there because it’s new and the food is cheap.

Then everyone starts to realize that there are no more stray cats in the neighborhood and everything tastes like MSG.

So the neighborhood decides that that new Indian restaurant looks pretty cool too.

China has NOTHING except cheap labor. And there are other countries in the neighborhood that have cheaper...

My complaint is that people are contemptuous of others who recognized that the US government policy is to devalue the $, and protected their assets against this thievery. Why do these provident people merit any sort of contempt. The US government and office holders ought to bear the derision.

No thanks. Have two cousins - one at Apple, one at IBM - who have spent much more than a week there.

They wouldn’t go back if their jobs didn’t depend on it.

What, exactly, does China provide us?

Money, just for starters. Lots of it.

Now that the dollar is tanking, probably not nearly as much as we need to keep bankrolling our deficient.

Maybe India will take up the slack.
