CRYSTAL LAKE A group of McHenry County College students got an impromptu civics lesson from college President Walt Packard Wednesday when they presented Packard with a petition protesting a controversial presentation scheduled later this week.
Members of Latinos Unidos, the colleges Hispanic student organization, gathered more than 400 signatures in three days from students who opposed the college agreeing to rent space to the Illinois Minuteman Project. The petition also asked the college to prohibit groups such as the anti-illegal immigration organization from using the facilities.
They bring ideas that are opposite what the Latinos Unidos mission is, Latinos Unidos co-leader and Student Senate President Emmanuel Martinez said. We think well have a group that will go against what weve been trying to do and build on the campus.
The Minuteman Project is scheduled to convene its program at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The seminar, which will feature an Ohio sheriff known for his tough stance on illegal immigrants, will come two months and one lawsuit after organization advocates originally had planned.
It also follows a seminar conducted at the college by the McHenry County Peace Group on civil rights and the benefits of immigration.
Packard told students that the college couldnt accept one group and deny another. Because the campus is open to the public, he said, it is open to rental from any organization that completes the proper applications and provides insurance.
Packard also called on the Hispanic students to be ambassadors for their cause.

Your American Colleges: Stamping out freedom of thought wherever possible.
Immigration ping Please
What is more scary is that the College President gets his best evidence from GOOGLE.
Aaaaah, college. Diversity of everything except diversity of opinion.
If that statement was made publicly, then the Minutemen need to sue the crud out of that college and its president for slander.
And what is your mission?
Columbic, take heed.
Hmmmm....The Minutemen ideology is different ergo it is incumbent upon Latino Unidos to keep the citizenry from hearing it.
This very statement guarantees any tort to be found in favor of the Minutemen; a 1st Amendment slam-dunk.
Huh?
Success in banning the minutemen based on this could be a very good thing.
Quickly the College Republicans could get the College Democrats, Feminists Union, and other assorted leftists groups banned because they bring ideas that are opposite what the College Republicans mission is.
Get to work young conservatives!
Diversity as it is preached today means demanding everyone think exactly the same and that is that no culture, group or mindset is condemnable or wrong in any way shape or form. As Franklin Graham says, "tolerance", and by extension diversity, has become Americans' "greatest virtue."

One would conclude from their actions and words that the Latino mission is to prevent the enforcement of immigration laws in the US. This could also be easily understood as a racist group attempting to reinforce its racial component to further erode the lawful taxpayers control over his property and freedoms. In the old days racism was considered bad. Now it seems to be considered good. Am I missing something here?

This is nonsense! If a group has ideas that are contrary to yours, then the answer is to out-argue them, not shut them up! Besides, how can you organise a ban against an institution that you THINK might be against you?
Perhaps they should organise a ban against the internet because someone on FR might criticise them.
Well...uh, yeah. AS in, when 'crackers' are racist, they're just racist. When any other ethnicity is racist, it's activism. That's how I'm reading it anyway.

Ah kolege, the old “marketplace of ideas” . . .
Yet another display of the “tolerance” of the “intolerant.”
Thanks, now who makes the rules on these sort of things? The msm? The dems? Who exactly do we need to target to square things up?
So they are against a group that is against illegal aliens. That means they are for illegal aliens. Groups that encourage lawbreakers shouldn’t be so stupid as to complain about those who disagree with them.
I just googled Walter Packard and it said he was an idiot.
