Hi Cal,

After checking the wording of the bill, it appears that adult and cord cell research is also covered under it. Not that it makes the bill any better, but I just wanted to make sure we are handing out accurate information. A revised flyer has now been uploaded. Here's the revised text:

Vote NO on the “New Jersey Stem Cell Research Act” on November 6th

“Don’t stem cells cure disease? Why should I vote no?”

Fact: To date, adult and cord stem cells have been used to treat 73 diseases successfully. This type of research shows promise and funding for adult and cord stem cell research is abundantly available in the private sector. This bill uses the promise of taxpayer funding for this beneficial type of research as a cover for funding an ineffective and unethical form of research—embryonic stem cell research.

Fact: To date, embryonic stem cell research has resulted in NO SUCCESSFUL CURES. In experimental testing, the use embryonic stem cells has resulted in tumors and mutations, not cures.

This bond question involves using $450 MILLION TAX DOLLARS to fund questionable and unethical embryonic stem cell research. The provision includes using property taxes to pay for the research. This will increase taxes for destructive and ineffective research.

Fact: Human embryonic stem cell research involves cloning embryos, then destroying them. Cloning an individual that results in the birth of the clone is illegal in NJ, but cloning an individual who will be destroyed before birth is not.

This research funds such cloning to harvest embryonic stem cells.

Do you want your tax dollars used—and our taxes inevitably raised yet again—for such questionable, unethical research?

ON NOVEMBER 6th, VOTE NO.
