Yes, they are all starting to parrot Hunter. Mark my words, they’ll be all pretending to be tough on China pretty soon too.

When two things happen, I might move in my support.
A) If Duncan Hunter fails to secure any 2008 GOP National Convention delegates after several primaries, AND, B) Bushbot-type Open Borders people here on FR who support FDT and in the larger world (supporters/big contributors/campaign aides) start to defect from Thompson BIG TIME precisely over his no-nonsense illegal immigration stance--then I will know it is real, it is an option, and it is a possibility for me; I am open to be convinced.

Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson yesterday staked out one of the toughest plans on the campaign trail to curb illegal immigration, trying to reignite the issue among the GOP faithful who rose up in revolt against a more moderate approach in Congress earlier this yearGod bless FDT. He is showing smarts and life. I've been waiting for one of the major candidates to get serious and specific on illegal immigration. A program aggressively fighting ILLEGAL immigration is a winning issue for any candidate of either party.

...the GOP faithful who rose up in revolt against a more moderate approach in Congress earlier this year.Allowing 40 million lawbreakers to reside in a country that isn't theirs is what the Boston Globe considers 'moderate'.
I wonder what they consider 'extreme'. Enforcing current law?

Nice try, Fred, but it would never work, and if you are half as bright as your groupies think you are, you know it.

I see Fred is trying to ride the immigration issue to victory, as did the Republican Congress in 2006.

There is no doubt that this is a good move for Fred, and his lack of involvement with the issue in the past means that he can take a tough stance and not be accused of flip-flopping or pandering. Giuliani's criticism of "what did Fred do about this in the Senate" is weak...no one in the Senate did anything. Hunter and Tancredo have the best positions on this because of their past tough lines on it, and because they have made a difference in the House, but among the other candidates, including the big three: Rudy, Romney and McCain, Fred stands to gain a lot of support from this and can undoubtedly run the table on all of them.

Daddy always told me the best way to judge a persons future performance was to look where that person had already traveled. With Fred and his many fellow pretenders I’m afraid all this rhetoric about getting tough on illegal immigration if you’ll only elect “me” president kind of rings hollow.

there was NOTHING on CNN, PMSNBC or FOX NEWS.
The MSM is doing bias by omission for the 2008 election.

All you Duncan Hunter fans can be proud that he won our poll â(10/23) Who would you vote for if you were not afraid that your candidate might not win? â but sorry to say he canât win the whole Enchilada. Fred can. Let’s team up. Hope we can still be friends afterwards no matter who wins the nomination.

The Globe is portraying Thompson’s non-plan as “tough” while portraying amnesty as a moderately tough plan to curb illegal immigration. If the Globe is mischaracterizing on Fred’s behalf, it must mean that they like Fred.
