Groups: Planned Parenthood Abortion Centers Should be Scrutinized More

Overland Park, KS (LifeNews.com) -- Because a Planned Parenthood abortion facility in Kansas has been charged by with more than 100 counts of violating state abortion and health laws, pro-life groups say Planned Parenthood centers nationwide need more scrutiny. Both the Christian Medical Association and Operation Rescue called for more oversight.

Dr. David Stevens, the head of the CMA, says the case raises larger questions about how government regulates abortion businesses.

"Why does the abortion industry remain the most unregulated medical operation in this country? Is political correctness stifling investigations and enforcement of the law?" he asked.

"If just 29 records from one Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Kansas have produced 107 criminal charges, isn't it possible that similar abuses are also occurring at other of the 860 Planned Parenthood facilities nationwide?" Stevens added.

"With our tax dollars supporting Planned Parenthood, the public has a right to know," he said.

Operation Rescue president Troy Newman agreed and his group is calling for an emergency suspension of Federal funding to all Planned Parenthood organizations nationwide in light of the charges.

"All Planned Parenthood organizations are required to adhere to standardized policies and procedures," he explained. "If there have been 107 criminal charges after reviewing just 29 records from one year, then it is reasonable to have concern that others are also violating the law."

"Taxpayers should not be forced to fund an organization that is operating outside the law," he added.

Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri was charged last week with 23 felonies and 84 misdemeanors.

Johnson County Attorney Phill Kline accused it of submitting false information to the government, doing abortions, and failing to determine viability for late-term abortions.

These charges were based on 29 patient's abortion records obtained from 2003 and there could be more violations regarding other women in more recent years.

A coalition of pro-life groups is scheduled to submit a citizens' petition in the next few days that would compel Johnson County, Kansas to convene a grand jury to further investigate Planned Parenthood on additional allegations of illegal activity over the past five years.

"These questions need to be addressed much more forcefully, with oversight hearings by state and federal legislators," Dr. Stevens concluded, "and also with increased scrutiny and recommendations for reform by medical oversight organizations."

The ONLY logical conclusion is that Planned Barrenhood's desire to kill as many babies as possible has resulted in a total disregard for the law.

It’s good that law enforcement is going after them, but Planned Parenthood shouldn’t be ‘scrutinized’, they should be shut down.

The ONLY logical conclusion is that Planned Barrenhood's desire to kill as many babies as possible has resulted in a total disregard for the law.

I was on the board of directors and served a term as president for a Crisis Pregnancy Center. The center had handshake agreements with several abortion "clinics" where they would send women to us if they refused abortion. One would think that an organization that claims to be pro-choice would actually offer women a choice.

The deals came undone after the upper management at one of the abortion clinics found out about agreements and they reprimanded the employees who had been referring women to us.

The good news is that abortionists are a dying breed and that many of them have repented and come to know Christ.

“For every woman who chooses life, Planned Parenthood loses between $300 - $700”

40 Days for Life – Sacramento, update days 21 - 23

News from the Trenches

For years I have been praying at the 29th and B Street Planned Parenthood on Tuesdays, one of their main abortion days.

However, Monday afternoon our family Suburban with 242,000 miles on it started smoking. I called my “superhero” husband, who stopped rice harvest, drove the truck into town and got me and the kids home. However, now the car’s in the shop and my husband needs the truck for the harvest. Feeling terrible because I couldn’t get to Planned Parenthood, I made some fast calls for more volunteers.

It turned out that our vigilers gave out more pamphlets on Tuesday than ever before. Branko was there for nearly six straight hours! Many PP clients just took our information and left.

The PP escorts and employees are getting very frustrated at the dramatic loss of “business:” for every woman who chooses life, Planned Parenthood loses between $300 - $700, depending on how far along her pregnancy is.

By Wednesday, there were more employee cars in the parking lot than there were client vehicles. Out of desperation, PP is building a huge fence around the front of their building. In reality they are not pro-choice — they will do anything to prevent us from supporting and empowering a woman to choose life.

On Thursday, PP typically opens later as they wait for the Stericycle biohazardous waste truck to make their pickup; today, the doors remained locked until after 11:30. From 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., numerous potential clients came seeking “services” only to find PP closed, and they just naturally came over to us instead. I have never given out so many pamphlets as today!

Thursday not being a regular “killing” morning, most everyone said, “I don’t believe in abortion. I’m not here for that. I’m here for _____,” which could be STD testing/treatment, annual exam, vaccination, contraceptives. We need to provide referrals to other medical facilities so women can receive genuine health services without supporting what goes on at PP. We’re also providing more information on the disease risks, abortifacient effects, and failure rates of condom/pill use, while encouraging abstinence and NFP.

Monsignor Kavanaugh joined us for prayer today. Soon after he arrived, two sisters came over to speak with us. One was pregnant and abortion-minded, while the other sister was trying to encourage her to keep her baby. Suddenly, the life-affirming sister looked over and said, “Is that Monsignor? I know him! I spent time at his St. Patrick’s Children’s Home when I was growing up.”

Monsignor Kavanaugh greeted her and invited her to pray the rosary with him, while the pregnant sister spoke at length with a Sidewalk Counselor. Soon, both young girls left the abortion clinic, waving and smiling.

Update on the fence: many of you have contacted River City Fencing to express our concerns. Today, a River City employee painted the heavy-duty posts with black paint, but no further work was accomplished. Perhaps they are having second thoughts?

Our “40 Days” ends two weeks from Sunday; please help us bring it to a resounding, prayerfully powerful, conclusion by joining us. I’d love to see you there!

The Kansas legislature passed a law requiring that abortion clinics be merely inspected. Our Democrat governor vetoed the bill and our RINOs ran.

The government funds the killing mills with our taxdollars, IIRC 250 million per year.

Many see abortion as a necessary thing for the good of society. Many in government agree with this sick line of thinking, while the rest just don’t care. The ones in government that do care are a small minority.
