On this day in history: 241 US servicemen killed in Beirut bombing (vanity)
10/23/1983 | Me

"The suicide bomber detonated his explosives, which were equivalent to 12,000 pounds (about 5,400 kg) of TNT. The force of the explosion collapsed the four-story cinder-block building into rubble, crushing many inside. It is said by a U.S. federal district court judge to have been the largest non-nuclear blast ever (deliberately) detonated on the face of the Earth."

Sorry if this has already been posted, but I didn't see it. Just remembering one of the first terrorist attacks on America that happened on this day, 14 years ago. The death toll was 220 US Marines, 18 Navy Seabees and 3 Army soldiers, along with 58 French Paratroopers.

We have been in this war for a long time now. I just wanted to remember the 241 Americans whose lives were snuffed out by Islamic Jihad or Hizb'allah on that day.

I don’t keep the date stored in my brain. But probably on average once a week I remember it happened.

And even though I think the world of RR, he didn’t do one thing to retaliate. This WOT started way to late IMO.

On that occasion, Reagan did exactly what liberals wanted to do after 9/11: he withdrew our troops from the Middle East and did nothing. We all know what happened next.

The MSM is too busy with the California wildfires and Hillary vs Barack. But they could at least mention it. They never forget to mention Katrina.

24 years ago. These guys were slaughtered before many current US Marines and Soldiers were even born. And they continue to be killed today by Mohammed’s misguided grandchildren. Thanks a lot, Mohammed.

I believe Reagan later realized and acknowledged that he erred badly in not responding forcefully to this attack. He was not perfect by any means, and he made some big mistakes. Unlike most of our current crop of ostensible leaders, however, Reagan was man enough to admit his mistakes.

His greatness did not derive from any sort of absolute perfection, but rather from the rightness and truth of his vision, which remains so despite his human failures and imperfections in implementation.

Prayers up for those murdered on that long ago day. For their deaths to have meaning we must utilize the benefit of twenty-four years of hindsight and experience to learn from the mistakes made at that time and not repeat them.

That's right, it didn't begin on 9/11/2001. It didn't begin on 10/23/1983. It didn't even begin 1400 years ago when Mohammed started his club.

It began when Satan was cast out of Heaven. And we ain't seen nothing yet.
