Muslim Sect's Proposal for Extensive Center Unsettles Small Frederick County Town...Nestled near the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains on the rural outskirts of Frederick, and many of them are praying that this hamlet of 5,500 will be able to stop a proposed development.
A Silver Spring-based Muslim sect has proposed buying the town's largest farm to build a retreat and Islamic worship center that would host up to 10,000 people annually for a national religious convention.
Under the proposal, the 224-acre farm's colonial-era house...would be converted into living space for an imam and other clergy from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA. The main prayer and recreation center would be topped with a 65-foot spire...
Public outcry has been so intense that some town officials are maneuvering to adopt zoning law amendments that could block the project. The town's planning commission will vote tonight on an ordinance to prohibit building places of worship and private clubs on land zoned for agriculture. On Nov. 1, the town's board of appeals will hold a final public hearing and could vote whether to allow the Ahmadiyya community to build its retreat on the property, which is zoned for agriculture....
For their part, the Ahmadiyya community has launched an aggressive public relations campaign...
Legally, the town's hands are tied. Making land-use decisions on religious or racial grounds is unconstitutional, and the town can deny the sect's proposal only if there are legitimate concerns about traffic, infrastructure or planning.
Intisar Abbasi, said he hopes his fellow Muslims will become a part of Walkersville. "I love the community, and the people are wonderful," Abbasi said. "I'm not surprised there are people who are angry, but, you know, that's part of the process."...

I tend to agree. You don’t need to buy a 225-acre farm to host a 10,000-strong convention once a year. There are plenty of convention centers who will gladly host such an event. The use for housing for an imam and some clergy probably means setting up a school (or maddrassa), at a minimum. Check to see if the farm can be subdivided because in California some Islamist groups have tried to form enclaves in the foothills (they went belly up, I believe but that is beside the point) and that also might be in the plan. Further, even if you don’t use the farm for housing, more Islamists will move to the burg and soon will have a voting bloc capable of getting what they want.
I don’t want to use liberal tactics to stop progress but I think there are legitimate reasons to oppose an exclusivist group from setting up a large shop in a small town. JMHO
imminent = eminent
though eminent domain should be imminent if we are in a hurry...
Also very helpful is the recent Federal recommendation to close the Saudi maddrassa in Virginia.
Using this the town and state should hold up the sale and zoning approval, for years if neccessary, until a proper investigation can be done regarding the source of funding, the proposed content of teaching/conferences and whether it also espouses Islamic radicalism, and a complete Federal, state and local investigation and background check of every single individual proposed for employment at this center.
It would take at least 5 years to complete this process. By that time, I assure you the Saudis will look for another site for this center.
Takes a lot of property off the tax rolls.
These people are Pakistanis and Indians, not Saudis, which in some ways is worse.
There must be some kind of endangered snail or whatever that could be found under a rock. It happens so often in OTHER areas.
Do you think any of their more violent brethren might have an interest in absconding with some of the nasty stuff down at Ft. Detrick? The place is not exactly Fort Knox where security is concerned.
Hey, I'm not making an accusation here. I'm just sayin'. You know what I'm sayin'?
I think the problems in Walkersville would more likely be drainage and runoff.
Frederick, MD? I live about an hour from there. There’s a mosque like 10 minutes away from my home too. Man, the Mexican invasion is bad enough, but an Islamic invasion is even worse!
Remember when the US military was brought in to crush a religious community accused of manufacturing modified guns for some kind of apocalyptic clash? Their numbers dwarf those of these Wahabi funded Islamic military training camps.
The videos have been viewed. Jihadists training in North America. But we need to show a new “sensitivity” while waiting to have our throats cut.
The Mexican Army is welcome to cross our Southern border escorting drug traffickers with a written statement (later denied) by Homeland Security for border agents to stand down and give them room if there is an encounter.
It’s crazy.
How can there be a separation of church and state when a FOREIGN state (Saudi Arabia’s government) is funding the expansion of their intolerant (Islamics ONLY in S.A.) state religion?
This is not progress it is a set back of 700+ years. And any tactic, short of violence, that will prevent it are in order!
Follow the money. What foreigners are paying for this crap? No way are Americans funding this
Probably the Saudis

Read the wiki on the Ahmadiyya
They are the Muslim kooks that have a lot of “Jesus things” going on. Conventional Muslims don’t like them
“And any tactic, short of violence, that will prevent it are in order!”
Don’t know that I would advocate going that far. Maybe if it were a legal tactic short of violence, I might support it but there are plenty of legitimate ways to get more information on the impact of this proposed development. It is fair to question noise, parking, future use of the farmland beyond the annual convention, requirements of the proposed new owners for accommodation from the neighbors, (i.e., could they dictate how neighbors could use their land?) etc., etc.
We both agree violence isn’t the answer and that more information certainly needs to be provided. As I said earlier, one doesn’t buy a farm to hold an annual convention and put a couple of clergymen into the house so something more is obviously planned for the land.
Ahmadiyya are complicated the way the Mary worshiping Alewites of Syria are. Not Saudi financing here.
Ahmadiyya are kooky same as Sufi
The argument could easily be made that Islam is not a religion.
The process of the Islamicization of America, that is.
