Hey everyone:) This is my first thread, and I wish it were under better circumstances. Dominnae and I have been posting here on and off for some time now, and have enjoyed and learned so much from everyone here. We really love and enjoy coming here all the time...I have an urgent favor to ask from you all. Dominnae's Father, Robert isn't doing very well at all. He has been in remission from lung cancer, among other medical conditions, but several weeks ago, we found out his cancer is back. And it has advanced enough, that he doesn't have much time left at all. He underwent both chemo and radiation a few years ago, and even though it put him into remission, it damn near killed him. The Dr's said that his body cannot absorb any more radiation, and that even if he underwent chemo, it won't make any difference, that it is only a matter of months and he has decided to not undergo it. That choice alone, has been hard on her. He is about to go through treatment to ease his suffering, and will soon enter a hospice. The reason I am asking for prayers tonight is,,,about an hour ago, he began coughing up blood, and I don't wish to get into graphic details, but medical help is being sought. Robert was 17 when Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7th. A short time later, he lied about his age and joined the Navy. He served on the U.S.S Reeves, for I think,,,26 months. She was a Destroyer Escort on North Atlantic convoys, and was then refitted as an APD Fast Attack Transport for South Pacific duty. The Reeves saw plenty of combat and among other things, is noted if I'm not mistaken, as the first allied ship to make port into Japan immediately after the Nagasaki blast. Robert was part of the damage assessment and and medical relief teams on the ground there, and has shared many a powerful tale, as well as some incredible photographs. They also assisted in the repatriation of the POWS, including Major Greg "Pappy" Boyington. Robert has shared with me that one of the very first things "Pappy" did, once onboard and on the way home, was to go down in the Engine Room and start a game of Poker which lasted for at least 2 days straight, lol. Robert, who prefers to be called by his friends and loved ones.."Pops" is a damn good man, still filled with plenty of spark and humor, and I am both honored and priveledged to know him. He has served his country and his fellow man well, if you know him, you'd agree. What I am asking from all of you is to please include "Pops" in your prayers, so that he finds peace and that he knows no suffering...and that you also please include his family as well, so that they may find peace and comfort in their difficult time. Myself and Domi are grateful beyond words, thank you:)

Prayers up for Pops. May God ease his suffering. My father, David, a veteran of China/Burma/India and the Korean War left us two years ago this November 1. May God bless them all.

I am praying for your friend, and know how you feel.

One of my best friends, a longtime fishing partner and WWII hero, is passing away as I write this. He has been like a father to me, and I can’t tell you how much it hurts me to lose him.

I am currently writing an article about him for Veteran’s Day, am consumed by telling his story. It needs to be shared. Please write down any memories of your friend, as the brave men and women who experienced what they did need to have these stories told for future generations.

I called my friend yesterday and he was in so much pain he couldn’t even talk to me (cancer), and he puts talking to me among his top priorities in this stage of his life.

These wonderful men and women (this great generation), are leaving us, and it is heartbreaking. I am a Christian and I believe in the afterlife and know I’ll see them all again, but it still hurts to lose them.

Anytime we can record and pass on their experiences helps keep these alive for the future.

I am combining the prayers I have been offering for a WWII hero close to me with some for your extra special veteran.

Father, I pray that as Robert goes through the valley of the shadow of death, You would be with him. May Your rod and Your staff comfort him. I pray that, by the blood of Jesus, he would dwell in Your house forever.

I pray, Lord, that You would be near all his loved ones and friends to give them comfort. Thank You for this man, and the service he gave to our country. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

It's really sad how many of our World War II veterans are passing on. These men (and some women) saved civilization. Their story is one that should be told until until the end of time.

My own father is 84, and still well enough to get around, but becoming more feeble by the month. I am making an effort to record as much of his war experience as possible for his descendants to remember him by. I really do think he appreciates it now at the end of his life, even if in the past he didn't care much to talk about it.
