I've no interest in defending Guiliani. He doesn't fall on the correct side of the issues enough for my support. But, were I to encounter someone who did support him, I think I'd stand a better chance of changing that person's mind to a more conservative candidate, such as Hunter or Thompson, than would someone who just spewed ridicule. You don't build support by driving out dissenters; you build it by changing their hearts to your side.
What you don't seem to be getting is that I am not criticizing your position; I am criticizing your methods of promoting it. If a main purpose of FR is to "champion causes which further conservatism in America", and one of those causes is to reduce Rudy's support in the Real World, I think that is better done by convincing the Rudy boosters they are wrong with solid argument, rather than chasing them away with insults.

Free Republic advances conservatism, promotes conservative candidates and defends the Constitution. We FReepers are like minded in our politics. We have no desire to debate the pros and cons of liberalism. We oppose all aspects of liberalism. Nuff said.
As for my tactics. After a year plus of posting the factual truth about Giuliani, its time for some serious rhetorical ridicule. FReepers don't care about RudyBoosters. Just ask JimRob. FReepers aren't concerned with what RudyBoosters maybe thinking. In fact, for the most part, FReepers don't really care what Romney or McCain supporters are thinking either. Aside from FRed, the other three top tier candidates aren't taken seriously by most FReepers.
You need to get with the program. I've learned after many years. You'll never change the mind of a liberal. Period.
I am sorry you have given up on trying to convert others to conservative thought. Trying to convince anyone is mostly an exercise in futility, as you say, but it is so worth it when it happens.

Conservatives by our nature, are free thinkers. Conservative politics around this forum is limited to individuals supporting the conservative agenda, and those issues, policies and themes which advance conservatism. FReepers consider liberals to be the enemy.
If you enjoy dealing with liberals, have at it. I have more important things to be concerned about. And if my tactics upset the liberal opposition, or their enablers, I call that success.
