UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.
A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

I do wish comments would be left in the thread instead of being deleted. Deleting them just lets ugliness be posted without proper shame being allowed to develop. People ought to be able to digest & recall the nastiness later. jmo

I'm sorry. I did realize this sort of local problem now is considered a national disaster by the hand wringing brigade.
They said a downed power line.
New conference being held now.
I've spent a lot of time at Malibu and Pepperdine. My son played sports and graduated from Pepperdine this year.
The city is completely controlled by lefties.
The town's infrastructure is circa 1930s. Very hard to access and a magnet for preventable disasters.
The Ventura one?
Well, the houses they save in this firestorm will get wiped out by the mudflows during the rains. Its like dejavu all over again...1993?
I remember a younger Laura Diaz making her name with live coverage of the last major Malibu firestorm....running around in that tank top.

Malibu Castle, which perished in today’s fire, was actually in Escrow and set to have the final walk-though on Wednesday.
The deal was expected to close this Friday, and while the final selling price can’t be confirmed, it had an asking price of $17 million.

I heard that a downed power line may have started the Malibu fire.
Same here... I think all the comments should stand. Absolutely.
