Ran across this great video today of soldiers at Fort Benning signing "God Bless The USA" (Lee Greenwood) with Chelsie Boyd.
Watch at your own risk. This left me sobbing like a 16 year old after her first heartbreak.
Ma you were never 16.....
Me too, freema, me too.
Absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much.
I’m tryin’ to remember....yes! there are some vague recollections. I remember being such a good girl, that there aren’t any really interesting stories : )
Whew, I’m glad to hear it. Forget the tissues, I grabbed a paper towel, and moved along before I had to get the mop.
This thought will make you “misty” also...Ft. Benning is where our young men go for infantry training when they complete basic. Go back a take a look at the video, those soldiers are the average age of 19. Sad fact is; when they say, “God Bless the USA” they mean it and are ready to back it up...however, to idiots in the senate, it is just a sound bite.
That took me by surprise!
Blurry screen alert......I am so proud of all our warriors...

Although not in the “Wikipedia” entry on Lee Greenwood...
IIRC, I heard on talk-radio that when Greenwood had penned the composition,
he made the rounds of the music publishers/promoters for some time
before he found a music exec that would take a chance on such a
“feelings on the sleeve” type of song.
And that Greenwood was working a series of odd-jobs while pitching the
song to those “suits”.

“He is best known for writing and recording the patriotic song “God
Bless the USA” in the early 1980s. “God Bless the USA” gained
renewed popularity following the launch of Operation: Desert Storm
in 1991, and again, ten years later, following the September 11,
2001 attacks; in fact, the song even re-entered the Top 20 of the
country charts in late 2001. “
GREAT!!
