Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A new CBS News poll has bad news for pro-abortion Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani. It shows that Americans who self-identify as evangelical voters are strongly pro-life and will not support a pro-abortion candidate for president.
The poll, released on Friday, find 79 percent of evangelical voters take one of three pro-life positions opposing abortion.
They either oppose all abortions, all abortions except those rare one to save the life of the mother, or support abortions only in the rare cases of rape, incest or to save the mother's life.
But the poll also asked, "Is it possible you would ever vote for a candidate who does not share your views on social issues like abortion."
Some 60 percent of self-described evangelical voters said no while just 29 percent said they would consider backing a pro-abortion candidate.
Americans in general take a 50-41 percentage point split with 41 percent saying they would not vote for someone with a contrasting view on abortion.
The CBS News poll also asked evangelical respondents "How important will social issues such as abortion be in your vote for president next year -- extremely important, very important, somewhat important, or not too important?"
Among evangelicals, 74 percent said abortion was important to their vote with 42 percent saying abortion is extremely important and 32 percent saying it is very important.
Only 16 percent said abortion is somewhat important to their presidential vote and just 8 percent said abortion is not too important to them.
Among Americans in general of both parties, 45 percent said abortion is extremely or very important and 54 percent said it is somewhat or not too important.
You’ll get your wish: a marxist as president.
“America survived eight years of the Clintons, we can survive a few more. However, I do not believe that the conservative movement can necessarily survive a liberal Republican president.”
No, we barely survived the most hick, redneck and pandering couple ever to occupy a house with 12 foot ceilings. They killed more American citizens than any administration in history, due to their fear of Christian extremists, while being attacked time and time again by OBL. Clinton would have lost if it hadn’t been for the 3rd party challenge of H. Ross Perot. Now you single-issue voters will hand it to a Clinton again
You must vote Republican, no matter who gets the nomination, fools.
“Hunter is still my first choice. Why settle for anything else.”
Ditto!
I'd prefer national food and drug standards, thank you anyway.
Huckabee wants to eliminate income tax, not increase it.
Duncan Hunter does not come across well, frankly. I suggest the late night viewing tonight, of Glen Beck's interview with Huckabee.
“I have never known one person in my entire long life who was pro abortion. Never.’
Of course you are...
Excuse me?
I would really like to know who thinks “it’s great” to have an abortion aside from the likes of mindless wonders like Whoopi Goldberg. No one in their right mind believes abortion is “great.”
I saw this poll on one of the morning shows this morning, and they said that amoung non evangelical voters Rudy beats Fred by a huge margin, yet with the evangelical voters they were basically in a dead heat 22% to 23% with Rudy in the "lead".
So what denominations of Christianity are considered "evangelical"? Even this story says that people are "self describing themselves as Evangelical voters".
Let's get one thing straight, my wish IS NOT to have a Marxist as POTUS, YOUR'S is. You and all of the other Rooty Rooters do not seem to understand that there is NO DIFFERENCE between Rooty Toot and any of the 'Rat candidates.
The goal of conservatives is for the GOP to nominate a conservative. You and the other Rooty Rooters do not share that goal because you ARE NOT conservatives.
I will not be a 'good German' and vote for Rudy.
Nor will any true Catholic. To say "Pro-Life Catholic" would be a redundancy.
Genuine Catholics and Evangelical Protestants are nearly in perfect agreement on matters of morality.
You can take that attitude and a flying fandango too.
What good is a party label if we allow the party to be led by people with the very policies we abhor? We'd then have two Leftist Parties. Where do Conservatives go then?
"Genuine" is the key word indeed.
Get real, there are 3-4,000 more women every day that will never admit they made a bad decision, one that ended a human life... They are automatically in the “abortion is the greatest thing since chocolate glazed donuts” camp... as a form or self protection from reality (except for the ones that look for forgiveness).
They’re just NOW figuring this out?
