Republican Condemns 'Despicable Ad' by MoveOn.org By Susan Jones CNSNews.com Senior Editor October 18, 2007
(CNSNews.com) - The same group that slandered Gen. David Petraeus as "General Betray Us" is now exploiting a two-year-old girl with a heart condition, House Republican leader John Beohner (Ohio) said on Wednesday.
Rep. Boehner said all Members of Congress should condemn MoveOn.org's latest advertisement because it is false and misleading.
The liberal advocacy group is featuring 2-year-old Bethany Wilkerson of St. Petersburg, Fla., who was born with several holes in her heart -- and "who's only healthy today because of the SCHIP children's health program." The ad says Bethany's family has an annual income of $34,000 and was unable to afford private health insurance.
MoveOn.org, with help from its friends at USAction, said it plans to run the "Bethany" ad in the districts of lawmakers who "vote wrong" on Thursday, when the House tries to override President Bush's veto of the SCHIP (State Childrens Health Insurance Plan) bill.
"With children's lives hanging in the balance, this is a politically risky vote for Republicans, and they're watching public reaction closely to decide what to do," MoveOn.org said in a message to supporters. "No member of Congress will be able to vote against our kids without knowing they will be held accountable by voters."
President Bush and Republicans say Democrats want to expand the SCHIP program beyond the poor children it was originally intended to help. Critics call the expansion the first step toward government-funded health care for everyone.
Rep. Boehner accused MoveOn.org of exploiting the suffering of a two-year-old girl and her family -- in an attempt to spread the false premise that Republican lawmakers are trying to block funding for the SCHIP program.

Eli Pariser, who heads moveon.org, has no children.
Most moonbats have “sexual identity” issues, which make procreation biologically impossible.
Any Republican who votes in favor of forcing taxpayers to pay for the healthcare of other peoples’ children will be severely punished by the same voters who electem him/her.
So MoveOn.org basically proved that the program already in placed worked?
Boehner is the real deal. I know many had a problem with his rise to a leadership position, but as a resident of Ohio (not in his district btw) I’ve watched him pretty close, and like the guy.
He’d make a great Speaker if it ever comes around.
Michelle Malkin has been on top of this tactic by the DemonRATs.
What is so incredible about this is that there are people getting paid more that you or I will ever see in a paycheck to come up with this stuff. It is like paying someone to create false advertising. And there is no ethics here. Just the lies and nothing but the lies.
This is why I call them DemonRATs.
“With children’s lives hanging in the balance, this is a politically risky vote for Republicans, and they’re watching public reaction closely to decide what to do,” MoveOn.org said in a message to supporters. “No member of Congress will be able to vote against our kids without knowing they will be held accountable by voters.”
MoveOn.org later stated in a private email to Soros: “However, be rest assured that abortions shall not be included in holding members of congress accountable for children’s lives hanging in the balance, because a child hanging out of a womb feet first is not a child. So, therefore fetuses are not countable.” “And besides, since our way of life is a total social wreck, who else is going to be available to pay for health-care costs of our out-of-wedlock kids who have poor eating habits, and medicinal marijuana, oh...and oral sex that’s not sex.”
Instead of buying defamatory ads on the NYTimes (even at the liberal discount rate), Moveon and Soros etc. could have just paid for this poor girl’s treatment.
Why should Soros put good money into Err America when he could do some good with it.
Oh yeah. He’s a democrat, and that wouldn’t hurt President Bush.
Best news I've heard all day!
It's best if certain genetic lines do not pass to future generations.
When is the GOP going to show it has some brains and run its own ads? This is the perfect time to show the public how irresponsible the RATS are: demanding that taxpayers fund medical care for 25 year olds from the upper middle class (family income up to 83K)
The GOP could come out of this smelling like a rose but once again the Party brass is too dumb to seize opportunity even when it hits them in the face. Like I always say, they dont call us the Stupid Party for nothing.
Imagine how many children could be saved if Soros’ billions went to charitable care instead of political smears?
Why ? Because the Republican fund raising is not going well.
The Dems have moveon.org to spend big bucks for them, and the Republicans have ... who ?
Contrary to popular belief, I am not so heartless as to say, "tough--let the kid die", but there should be some sort of mechanism of partial responsibility/payback or effort on the part of the family receiving the benefit so that bad CHOICES are not made so glibly. I would have loved more children, but we knew WE COULDN'T AFFORD IT, nor would I have dreamed of bringing a baby into the world without knowing we had contingencies in place in the event that something went wrong.
Rep. Jim Gerlach ran a great TV ad at the end of the 2006 campaign attacking his opponent for being supported by “the hate groups like moveon.org”. It was no coincidence that he was the only one of the three endangered Republicans in the Philly suburbs who was reelected.
Exploiting children now. I wonder what kind of horrible process they put this poor child through to become their poster child. It’s a wonder they didn’t kill her.
Eli Pariser is a child.
How can Rep. Boehner stand up to Tampa Bay’s Most Photogenic Baby 2007?
The public is onto the ‘Rats now. The use of Untouchable Attack Dogs (UADs) will be seen for what it is. Thank you Ann Coulter.
This ad is easily countered by any Republican simply stating that SCHIP was designed precisely for this little girl, and isn’t it wonderful that she and her family can access it? The Republicans can THEN state that if this bill were allowed to go forward as the Democrats desire, wealthier families, and their adult children, can be added to the program, and it could actually HARM little ones like this girl, because there would not be enough money to help the truly poor and needy.
