Congressional Republicans have been contributing thousands of dollars to Massachusetts special-election candidate Jim Ogonowski in the run-up to Tuesday’s contest, and the candidate should reward their investment with, at the very least, a test case of how to run in an unfriendly environment.

This race has gone surprisingly well. That it’s even possile for the Republican candidate to win is an accomplishment.

Nikki Tsongas had to bring in Bill Clinton and scores of others to campaign for her.
If nothing else, we scared em good.
Just heard earlier today on WRKO in Boston (a major station that carries Rush) that this race is "neck and neck",which stunned me,although I haven't been following the race because I thought it was hopeless.
However,if it really is tight we can count on the RAT Crime Syndicate...led by Kennedy,Kerry and Frank and aided by Little Howie Dean himself...to scare up enough dead voters to pull it out.
If Og wins, he’ll be the first Republican to win the district since Paul Cronin beat a fella named John Kerry in 1972.
It’s easier to imagine AR going Republican than MA.
I still predict Tsongas victory of 10%.
I live in NH but can get the Boston radio stations. I haven’t heard any ads for Ogonowski, but lots for Tsongas, paid for by “Emily’s List.” The Tsongas ad says “Don’t send a Bush ally to Washington.” Tsongas is running a campaign based solely on being anti-Bush.
Actually, all four of AR’s Congressional districts could go Republican (and all 3 of WV’s) as they all voted GOP for President. In the case of MA, no Congressional district has voted GOP for President since 1988, however at the same time Bush, Sr. only received 31% in two particular districts, the Republicans triumphed in winning the seats.
This morning I had a Boston station on AM (it was still dark out) and I heard the most obnoxious campaign ad for Tsongas paid for by EMILY’s List.

Nikki Tsongas is a Turd Sandwich suffering from BDS. Too many illegals in the district, too many MOONBATS in MA. Ogonowski has got a tough row to hoe but I continue to pray for his success!!

Out my way Oginiski lawn signs clearly outnumber Tsongas. No telling what that means.

You mean there's a part of the state where a Republican's yard sign isn't stolen or defaced? I stopped using yard signs some time ago for that very reason.I also stopped putting bumper stickers on my car because they got stolen and the car was keyed at the same time (I spend a lot of time in Cambridge,Brookline and Newton).

At least. Too much whistling past the graveyard going on.
Next year might shock some freepers and other Americans into a cold reality, but I fear it will be a lot of finger pointing without any real action.

The best shot we tend to have for those seats is when they come open. It was unusual in AR when in 1992 3 of the seats were open without incumbents, and we picked up 2 of them (one was the heavily GOP seat, the 3rd). Had it happened in 1994, it’s quite likely we would’ve won all 4 of the seats, but instead there were the 3 open seats again in 1996 and we only held, again, just the GOP one of the 3rd.
In the case of WV, the incumbents just sit there for years and decades. Because since 1958 there has only been 3 people to sit in the Senate seats (Byrd, Jennings Randolph, and Rockefeller), most of the Dems know it may be never that they’re going to move up. Byrd was the last sitting House member to move up (Randolph had been a House member in the ‘30s and ‘40s and was out of office a dozen years before he made a comeback). Excluding Shelley Moore Capito, the other 2 members have been in a long time. Alan Mollohan inherited the seat from his dad in 1982 (the 1st hasn’t elected a Republican since 1966 when Moore-Capito’s father held it prior to becoming Governor in 1968). In the case of Nick Rahall, he has held the seat since 1976 (his nonagerian predecessor, Ken Hechler, who was still actively seeking office in this decade, is still around). That district, the heavily union-mining area of southern WV, hasn’t sent a Republican to Congress (in part) since 1956 and (in total — since the district used to cover 3 House seats, now 1 because of drastic population losses) since 1926. It’s funny how it still eventually drifted back our way at the Presidential level. It’ll be nice when we can finally get it back in our Congressional column. Of course, John L. Lewis will be spinning in his grave. He’d be horrified the politically similar district on the KY side has already been recaptured by us (albeit with a porky semi-RINO).
