Politics: We earlier ascribed Congress' move to declare the Ottoman Turks' slaughter of 1.5 million Armenians a genocide to simple Democratic incompetence. It may, however, be something much darker.

Based on the actions of Democrats in Congress recently, it's hard not to think that they actually want the U.S. to lose the war in Iraq — and will do almost anything to see it happens.

Unfortunately, they've run up against these headlines from Iraq in just the last couple of days: "Al-Qaeda In Iraq Reported Crippled" (Washington Post), "Shiite Leader Makes Reconciliatory Gesture, Visits Sunni Anbar Province" (Associated Press), and "Iraq Sees Dramatically Low Death Toll" (Associated Press).

The U.S. sure seems to be winning. Everywhere you go these days you see — dare we say it? — good news coming from Iraq.

In a rare but revealing slip, Democratic Congressman James Clyburn said that an American victory in Iraq "would be a real big problem for us" in the 2008 elections.

I think she is getting her orders from her good buddy Murtha. One of the first lines of defense in a war is to cut off the enemies supply line. In affect that is what she hopes will happen. Nothing else has worked to end the war thus far. This is their new tactic.

Was the IBD attacking Bush and siding with Clinton and Gore in 2000, when Bush was using recognizing the Armenian holocaust as a campaign issue?

I have no idea if IBD was or was not. Don’t recall Bush using the Armenian holocaust as a campaign issue either.

Let’s not use the word ‘treason”. Instead, Roget suggests:

“crime, deceit, deceitfulness, deception, disaffection, dishonesty, duplicity, faithlessness, lese majesty, mutiny, perfidy, revolt, revolution, sedition, seditious act, seditiousness, subversion, traitorousness, treachery”

It’s a Democratic Party U-Pick!

Well, I wouldn't say it was a major issue, but President Bush did make a point of saying he would recognize the Armenian holocaust. It was an issue he used against Gore, since Clinton and Gore were so pro-Turk.

George W. Bush for President

February 19, 2000

Mr. Edgar Hagopian
Mr. Vasken Setrakian

Dear Edgar and Vasken,

Thank you for your inquiry to my campaign regarding issues of concern to Armenian Americans.

The twentieth century was marred by wars of unimaginable brutality, mass murder and genocide. History records that the Armenians were the first people of the last century to have endured these cruelties. The Armenians were subjected to a genocidal campaign that defies comprehension and commands all decent people to remember and acknowledge the facts and lessons of an awful crime in a century of bloody crimes against humanity. If elected President, I would ensure that our nation properly recognizes the tragic suffering of the Armenian people.

The Armenian diaspora and the emergence of an independent Republic of Armenia stand as a testament to the resiliency of the Armenian people. In this new century, the United States must actively support the independence of all the nations of the Caucasus by promising the peaceful settlement of regional disputes and the economic development of the region. American assistance to Armenia to encourage the development of democracy, the rule of law and a tolerant open society is vital. It has my full support.

I am encouraged by recent discussions between the governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan. The United States should work actively to promote peace in the region and should be willing to serve as a mediator. But ultimately peace must be negotiated and sustained by the parties involved. Lasting peace can come only from agreements they judge to be in their best interests.

I appreciate the tremendous contribution of the Armenian community to the United States. The Armenian community has been and will continue to be a model of dedication to values of faith and family.

Sincerely,

(signed)
George W. Bush

Should we institute sharia law here in the U.S., because we might offend Turkey if we don’t? Should we let Turkey bully the supposedly great U.S., even though we give them tons of money and support?

Nor do I recall Clinton or Gore being so pro-Turk?!?! In the letter it seems to me Bush is pushing peace through democracy.

The issue today is Pelosi and her ilk interfering in matters that worsens the situation as far as American lives and interests are concerned.
