The US shot itself in the foot, commented the Chief of General Staff General Yaşar Büyükanıt after a US congressional vote branding the killing of Armenians in 1915-17 as genocide, Milliyet reported yesterday. In an interview with the daily, Büyükanıt said if the non-binding resolution that passed in a House committee last week was to be adopted in the House too, Turkish-US military ties would never be the same again.
The general expressed the opinion that world parliaments had no business in judging history. He said, The US is a very important ally of ours, but an ally does not act like this.
This week, General Buyukanit will visit Israel.
Murder happens. Genocides happen. History is littered with the remains of slaughtered and decimated cultures and peoples, subjugated and obliterated by a more vicious and violent neighbor.
We try to stop it, but the same events occur, today and yesterday. They will continue even tomorrow.
What happened 90-odd years ago is terrible, but it is past. Long past. Those who perpetrated it are dead and buried. It is over and done with. It is history, after all. Something to learn from and not to dwell on.
translation of general comment: Gimme a dollar...
Bingo! We have a winner. This is the reason Pelosi is doing this. An indirect way to make Iraq more difficult and block supplies going in etc. Dems just want to keeping mucking up the works and then blame Bush.
It's worthwhile examining the history of Kurdistan and its people before mouthing off about them.
The Armenians are being used by the left for political gains. In this the rats and I have something in common; I really do not care what the defunct Turk goverment did. To my fellow Armenians I say get over it, you are being used!
..............Think back to Turkey’s actions at the start of Gulf War II. Do you recall the US wanting to send troops through Turkey, and Turkey refusing to allow it?? ALLIES DO NOT ACT LIKE THAT!!!...............
Do you recall that Saddam had gassed his own civilians?
Do you recall that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction?
Do you realize that Turkey is a next door neighbor?
Given those circumstances, would you go against your Islam neighbor to allow the US attacker to use your soil??
Or would you lay low to see how things played out before you took sides??
What the Dems are doing has nothing to do with Armenia ~ they are, in stead, doing something very evil ~ they propose insulting the Republic of Turkey such that it withdraws its ports from our use to ship ammunition and necessary war materiel to Iraq to our troops. This will, in their mind, force us to withdraw from Iraq and precipitate the genocide there that they pray for.
We didn’t shoot ourselves in the foot, the Dems shot America in the back.
Why does modern Turkey give a rat’s rear end about a condemnation of Armenian genocide?
What makes the Turkish Army believe such a condemnation is justification for betraying an old ally?
wow, that's some name.
Yeah, he has twice as many fractions as I have in mine.
Is it possible to be locked in a room with a video camera and Nancy and Harry?
Modern Turkey is only a small part of the former Islamic Caliphate. Why today's Turks should be blamed for actions taken by the Islamic Caliphate is a good question.
Pelosi and company appear to not wish to condemn the Islamic Caliphate though.
Don't mean nothin'.
Let's see what the Turkish President has to say to the American President.
At the same time let's keep trashing this Nancy woman for her incredible stupidity and treason in time of war.

I brought this up on a different thread! The Archduke gets assassinated and here we go, (so to speak). Those whom forget history.............
This link shows a map of the genocide. Looks pretty ‘turkish’ to me:

However, the resolution I read blames the Ottoman Empire, not modern Turkey.
Fair enough. I don’t mind Turkey getting upset, but find the thought that Turkey would cut off supplies to our troops fighting islamo-fanatics incomprehensible.
BTW, the area you are pointing to is Anatolia, or Asia Minor. The Turks were merely the latest in a series of peoples to conquer and immigrate to that part of the world. In fact, way back when the Persians were dominant there the Greeks went in as immigrant settlers under Persian rule.
Various Central Asian groups (called "Turks") did both military conquest and settlement.
Currently the two dominant languages in Anatolia are standardized Turkish and Kurdish.
The Armenians lived in Anatolia, adjacent to Anatolia, and in various places away from Anatolia. You could find Armenians all along the Silk Road, much as you could find Jews, Arabic speakers, Greeks, Romans, Italians, Chinese and many others through the ages.
Again, the Democrats believe the present day Turkish government is responsible for the Armenian deaths. Odds are good none of them will ever actually read their resolution ~ that's staff work doncha' know ~ and most of them don't care one way or the other about the Ottoman Empire, the Turks, or the Armenians. Their only purpose is to force the withdrawal of our troops from Iraq and bring on a genocide.
Democrats love Genocide. Real Americans love victory, and self-respect. They reject cowardice and betrayal.
