HOPKINTON, N.H. (AP) - Sen. John McCain, who often faces challenging questions on illegal immigration, confronted a voter Sunday who called for ending legal immigration as well.
For months, McCain has been telling New Hampshire audiences that he still believes in the immigration plan that failed in Congress earlier this year but that he now realizes that none of its components - including allowing millions of illegal immigrants to eventually earn legal status - can be enacted until the borders are secured first.
That wasn't enough for a man who spoke up at the Hopkinton Town Hall, telling McCain that legal immigration could result in civil war in the next five years.
``Do the people in Washington - the politicians and the lobbyists and the rich people writing the checks - do they understand the amount of anger the average European Christian, native-born American feels when they see their country turning into a multicultural chaos Tower of Babel?'' he said.
McCain started to answer, only to be interrupted by his questioner accusing him of supporting amnesty for illegal immigrants. Finally, McCain repeated his promise - ``I think for the 15th time'' - that he would secure the borders to stop illegal immigration before attempting anything else.
He also strongly objected to the man's argument about the nation's future and the impact of legal immigration.
``I believe the greatest strength of America is the lady who holds her lamp behind the golden door that says send me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses,'' he said, referring to the Statue of Liberty. ``And I am grateful to live in a nation that has been enriched by people coming to our

McStain and many like him, haven’t had to deal with what is taking place in our nation. We keep sending in our deductions, and they keep on telling us to eat cake.
I don’t think we’ll see a civil war over this. Instead we’ll just see one minority become the major race in this nation and then turn the keys to the shop over to them.
Right now we have God knows how many illegals in nation, and a populace made up of about 13% hispanic. Even at that they wield more power than the 65% of the nation that is white northern european. Imagine what clout they will have when they are 40% of the populace. And just think what 30-40 million more of them legalized will result in. Somewhere in the time from of 2030 - 2040, and only if the illegal immigration rate remains the same, hispanics will become the majority race in this nation. When that happens, Katie bar the door. It isn’t going to be pretty.
I consider McStain and those like him to be traitors to the citizens they represent. And although he was elected in Arizona, he represents my interests in Washington, D.C. as well.
``I believe the greatest strength of America is the lady who holds her lamp behind the golden door that says send me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses,’’ he said, referring to the Statue of Liberty.
No, yonnie.......the greatest strength of America is our Constitution and the spirit that went into it a full century before the inscription from FRANCE
He should have gone to jail over the S&L debacle.
The open arms don’t work in a welfare society.
It only works when Americanism is the dominating ideology. The notion of I want to work for things, not that you owe me things. Turn that on its head and you will lose all that is good, all that works to improve lives.

Alright who woke McNut up.
Be sure to add Ken Salazar to your list of traitors. The man is a racist for sure, votes for EVERY benefit package for illegals.

The Inscription was written by Jewish immigrant activist, Emma Lazarus.
""Give me your tired, your poor, / Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free," proclaims the "Mother of Exiles" in Emma Lazarus's sonnet "The New Colossus." Her best-known contribution to mainstream American literature and culture, the poem has contributed to the belief that America means opportunity and freedom for Jews, as well as for other "huddled masses." Through this celebration of the "other," Lazarus conveyed her deepest loyalty to the best of both America and Judaism."
Sorry to disagree with you Doughty. I think there is every likelihood that we will see civil war in the US within the next few years. It is already happening in the major population centers where the illegals are shooting it out on the streets every night over turf and drugs. If you don’t think those folks live in a war zone, you might want to go there and spend a few nights. It will get worse and spread across the USA. It is only a matter of time until some of us go on the offensive if the politicians don’t deal effectively with it.
Thompson/Hunter would work for me! McCain should ride his horse back to Arizona and take the long rest he needs. It is over for him and he is just spinning his wheels.
I’d love to see one of my fellow Vietnam vets become President, but it doesn’t look like we’ve got one with the requisite integrity.

BUMP
McCain needs to retire after he gets his butt kicked again in the upcoming primaries. We Arizonans have had enough of him.
Yes.
He's also co-sponsering a bill that would automatically give any ancient human bones found to the American Indians even if there is no proven connection ...all without scientific investigation.
There were other people in the Americas before the American Indians arrived and they want to conceal that fact.
As for the Statue of Liberty:
That was THEN....
T%his is NOW, McVain.
