Rush Limbaugh Earns Big Money From Senate Letter Chastising Him
Sunday, October 14, 2007
Rush Limbaugh
WASHINGTON A letter sent to Rush Limbaugh's boss demanding he be chastised for comments he made on the air about "phony soldiers" is now on the auction block, and the latest bid is a cool $41,400.
One hundred percent of the money raised from the eBay auction will go to educate the children of Marines and law enforcement officers who died while on duty, the auction says.
Bids will continue until Friday for the letter signed by 41 Democratic senators and sent on Oct. 2 to Mark P. Mays, president of Clear Channel, the parent company of the conservative talk show host's radio broadcast. The winning bidder will get the letter, the "Halliburton briefcase in which this letter is secured 24 hours a day;" a letter of thanks from Limbaugh and a picture of the talkmeister announcing the auction at a speech in Philadelphia delivered last Thursday.
"This historic document may well represent the first time in the history of America that this large a group of U.S. senators attempted to demonize a private citizen by lying about his views. As such, it is a priceless memento of the folly of (Senate Majority Leader) Harry Reid and his 40 senatorial co-signers," reads the eBay announcement.
As of midday Sunday, 95 bids by 36 bidders had been made on the letter, whose opening bid price was $100.
Playing up the controversy over comments Limbaugh made last month in which he used the term "phony soldiers," seemingly to describe U.S. troops opposed to the Iraq war, Limbaugh told his audience last week

“You can bet a lot of that will be stolen by the corrupt officials in Africa etc”
I figure most of it.
Rush makes 30-35 million per year.
A couple of years back, Rush hinted that he was making more than $15 million a year.
For those who wondered if Diane Finestien signed the letter..she did.
Fox should fire the smug little liberal who wrote that headline. The headline is a lie, Rush is not making money on this.
This reminds me of the headline in the New York Slimes when Rush's legal troubles were finally over:
In Legal Deal, Limbaugh Surrenders in Drug Case
That was their headline when his case was resolved, when the prosecution had abandoned their efforts to put him in jail.
More and more, the MSM seems to consist of a bunch of snickering juvenile propagandists. Who needs it?

He didn't use the term to "seeingly" describe US troops. That's the lie.
Limbaugh has denied the term "phony soldiers" referred to former servicemen and women who served in Iraq and now oppose the war, but to those who lied about their service. A literal reading of the Sept. 26 show in question shows that the controversial host did not in fact say that soldiers opposing the war are "phony."
Limbaugh has "denied". The truth can be ascertained from listening to the tape or reading the transcript. However, the story says "A literal reading...", which implies that although he didn't literally say it, he still could have implied it.
It's still a smear.
He also called upon each of the 41 signees to show their patriotism and match the winning bid as a donation to the same charity. (Which, by the way, for which he is a board member.)
Who Signed?

I wouldn’t be surprised at all.
I sent an email to Patty Murray of Washington letting her know how reprehensible a person she is ..... she was a signer of that letter ....
As much as I dislike Feinstein, she does seem to avoid making an ass out of herself nearly as much as Boxer. Shes a dyed in the wool liberal moonbat, but she doesnt waste her efforts on things that dont matter. I wouldnt be surprised if she steered clear of this nonsense.

Sorry Doughty...DiFi signed the letter.

Yes I saw that. Very good.
Rush Limbaugh's insinuation that members of the military who question the Iraq war are phony soldiers serves as another example of how the national debate over our Iraq policy has been largely characterized by overheated rhetoric. It is obvious that neither you nor your staff took the time to view and hear ten minutes worth of video of Rush Limbaugh's remarks. That makes you lazy and incompetent. Unfit for office. I will be glad to volunteer my efforts to unseat you in the next election to whoever wants it.
Where is your condemnation of Sen. Kerry's remarks that our troops "terrorize women and children in the dead of night."?
Where is your condemnation of Cong. John Murtha who accused U.S. Marines of "cold blooded murder" before they had even been charged? Now they have all been exonerated.
Where is your condemnation of Sen. Dick Durbin for equating our servicemen in Cuba with "Stalin, Mao Tse Tung and Pol Pot."?
You are not only lazy and incompetent you are a hypocrite. Private citizens exercising their 1st Amendment rights are not open to your condemnation in your official capacity as a Senator. Stick within the bounds of the Constitution.
That’s good!
You folks are correct. She did sign. My comments still stand. She does seem to avoid some of the nonsense. Still, I am no fan of Diane.
Another poster mentioned he didn’t remember seeing her name there. To be honest, it wouldn’t have surprised me either way.
As I said, she is a moonbat.
Thanks for the notes folks. I’m glad to know she voted for it. I’ll file this away.
