The presidential campaign is heating up. Thankfully, our press is focusing on important issues, such as Fred Thompson's wife.
As it goes, Thompson, who had been divorced 20 years, met her at a supermarket in 2000. She is 24 years his junior, but something clicked.
He carried her groceries to her car. She invited him to a party. They married in 2002 and now have two children.
And now, according to The New York Times Fashion & Style section, Thompson's young wife is spurring debate in Internet chat rooms, cable television and talk radio. Is America ready for a president with a trophy wife, The Times asks.
She's got a permanent tan, after all. Her hair is bleached blond. Her 41-year-old youthfulness contrasts mightily with the grandfatherly nature of her 65-year-old husband.
The question on everyone's mind: Will social conservatives -- those fuddy-duddy moral-values types -- turn away from Thompson because his second wife is a babe?
As is often the case with our media, they got it backward. MORE people will support Thompson because of his wife.
Look, Thompson has a balding noggin. His mug is pale, haggard and woebegone. Nobody is going to mistake him for George Clooney.
Yet the old fellow persuaded a young blonde in a supermarket to 1) ask him out, 2) marry him and 3) have two kids with him. This fellow could talk Ahmadinejad out of his nuclear ambitions.(continued)

If Fred does his own shopping, that would be a very positive sign.
I watched the video of Fred Thompson and his wife Jeri. It was very good. She is well spoken and has a head on her shoulders. She is intelligent and very dignified not to mention the class she has.
However, I would NOT refer to her as a hot babe. I think sounds disrespectful. She deserves a better name than that. She is very lovely and looks to me like she would make a very gracious First Lady of our Country.
I think the people that make fun of Fred Thompson and his young wife are just jealous. So he has a young wife? What’s their problem? clintin had girlfriends. Thompson has a wife and children.
yes, exactly. At least Fred Thompson is married to his lovely younger wife. clintin was married when he had his affairs.
Yes, little ones in the White House would be great. They are married, have two children are a good mom and dad and LOVE EACH OTHER.
I love Laura Bush. She is loaded with class and dignity but we never saw enough of her. I wish we had but we didn’t so...this would be a nice change to see Jeri and her children playing and her and Fred enjoying thier lives together rasing their family. IT’S TIME FOR CHANGE!!!
Good god. Your on to something.
Well, at least we know he made at least one good decision. She is very pretty.
BUMP
rebirth of camelot the GOP way.
She’s not going to wear that dress again. Fashion designers lend their work out for publicity at events.
I married my trophy wife 20 years ago. she had a great job, makes more than me and like shaving me around. Does that make me a trophy husband? YEEEEHAAAA!
I guess it depends on where she's been shaving you. Judging by your scream at the end there, I'm not sure I want to find out...
Cheers!
“The question on everyone’s mind: Will social conservatives — those fuddy-duddy moral-values types — turn away from Thompson because his second wife is a babe?”
No. I will just be jealous of him as I give him my vote.
IIRC, that was a Hollywood function several years ago, not a political event. She now is more demure, as is appropriate for her status as a potential First Lady.
Never a hot poker around when you need one...
I'll bet it did.
As is often the case with our media, they got it backward. MORE people will support Thompson because of his wife.
False. Both the MSM and this author have it wrong. The folks who'll vote for Fred will do so because A) they prefer his political platform to that of any of the other GOP contenders, and B) they think he has the best chance of beating Hillary.
Fred's wife doesn't even come close to entering into the equation.
Disturbing on many levels...
I have to look that Camelot title up but if memory serves me correctly it was something coined by Jackie after the death of the President. You know the meida was all googly eyed and they picked up on it and referred to the kennedys as America’s royalty. I’m sorry but I never thought of them or any other kennedy as royalty. This country has no royalty nor do we want royalty. I think we broke from that a long time ago but then again...what does the media know?
