WASHINGTON Being around NASCAR fans requires no inoculation.
That was the word Thursday from Republican officials after they learned that a congressional committee's Democratic staffers had advised aides to get vaccinated for hepatitis and other diseases before visiting NASCAR events in Concord, N.C., and Talladega, Ala.
Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., said his committee aides were visiting health-care centers, detention facilities and other operations where they could be exposed to communicable diseases. He said the immunizations were routine for health-care workers.
"Democrats should know that there is no preventive measure yet designed to ward off the blue-collar values and patriotism that NASCAR fans represent," said Linda Daves, the chairwoman of the North Carolina Republican Party. "If they aren't careful, they just might catch some of it."
Republican Rep. Tim Walberg, whose district includes the Michigan International Speedway, said Democrats must not understand the term "rubbin' is racing."
"To suggest that vaccines are needed to attend NASCAR races is insulting to millions of hardworking Americans who love their country and the smell of burnt rubber," he said.

I’m not a big NASCAR fan, but it looks as if the democrats really stepped in it this time.
Let’s see, they don’t want to support the war. They bash the members of the military every chance they get. If a question of moral judgement comes up, they pounce on our troops, ask questions later. They loathe calls to get the border under control. They want prison inmates to be able to vote for them. They want to change it so all sorts of deviant behavior will be on an equal footing with heterosexual marriage. They want... ...their members to get vaccinations before attending NASCAR events.
Sounds like a nice average American group of people. Can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t want to vote for them.
I suggest they take on baseball and football fans too. That ought to secure their dynasty for the next... ...three seconds.
Perhaps the Republican party should set up a hot-line for democrat party leaders, who seem determined to commit political suicide.
What an embarrassment for the D party! Of course, this story has appeared on a Friday and will disappear before the new week starts. The Dems are increasingly showing their true colors. Let’s hope they make major misstep after major misstep all next year!
Memo to dems and GOP:
Stay away from NASCAR. You’re not welcomed here.
I really dislike NASCAR. I do.
I am a Formula-1 fan. It’s my 4-wheel racing of choice.
That being stated, I would trust safety of my family and home to any NASCAR driver over any F-1 driver 100% of the time (Juan Pablo Montoya excluded).
NASCAR drivers, team owners and FANS are the stuff that have made the USA great. And, I believe that I would have inoculations before I went to any F-1 race (with the exception of the US race).
The only drug(s) I need to attend a NASCAR race is/are a case of good beer.
The idea of being touched by Bernie Ecclestone at an F-1 race gives me the creeps! YEEECH!!!!
We are all serfs in the eyes of the DemocRAT establishment.
Ahhhh But you have been paying attention to "Tony Montana's" Nascar skills.
(Columbia/Cocaine/JPM -- Tony Montana Scareface)
"If anything, it's the NASCAR fans who should get immunized against Washington officials, not the other way around," said Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C.
The only drug(s) I need to attend a NASCAR race is/are a case of good beer.
Any NASCAR fan knows a case of good beer, when tailgating before a race, will last from 8 a.m. to about 8:19 a.m...may I suggest SEVERAL cases of good beer..:-)
I’m not either...but I was trying to figure out the motivation. Do they think terrorists might attack
a NASCAR event before they would attack some other sporting event? I’ve been to only one race — I want to say there was an invocation...
Agreed. Bring more beer.
And that is a good think about the race crowd. I don’t mean to imply it’s a worthless enterprise. I just don’t care to watch cars go around in circles for hours at a time. Others obviously get more out of it than I do. Some people don’t like to chase a little ball around the countryside, but a lot of people do like to play golf. Different strokes...
