John Edwards Denies Tabloid Report of Affair

SUMMERTON, S.C. (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards says a tabloid story that he had an extramarital affair is untrue.

"The story is false. It's completely untrue, ridiculous," Edwards told reporters Thursday after he was asked about the National Enquirer report.

The supermarket newspaper reported that the former North Carolina senator had an affair with a woman who worked on his campaign. It did not identify the woman, nor did it name the source of the information for its report.

Edwards said the story was simply "made up" and that he loves his wife, Elizabeth, who is being treated for an incurable form of cancer.

"I've been in love with the same women for 30-plus years and as anybody who's been around us knows, she's an extraordinary human being, warm, loving, beautiful, sexy and as good a person as I have ever known," he said. "So the story's just false."

I agree. It just doesn’t pass the smell test.

I also made a post over in the thread about the so called “missing videos” that started the whole Sam Stein (HuffPo) and Kaus thing to begin with.

If I’m reading the story at that thread right, the “webisodes” she made were paid for by a PAC Edwards started years ago. The PAC seemed to think it may violate federal campaign laws if it looked like they were promoting a newly-declared candidate, so they took them down.

The videos didn’t belong to the campaign. They probably can’t just use them because it could be an illegal contribution, and even if they buy them from the PAC it could be an illegal coordination between the two. Just guessing.

Bottom line, I think it’s a nonstory and I’m sorry to see the poo being flung so early in the campaign.

It may not have started from the right, but Kaus was sure willing to pick it up and run with it.

Don’t you just smell the beast’s hot foul breath when you read this?

I’d put the odds of him being faithful at about 1000 to 1, ESPECIALLY because he’s a politician and in the public eye.

There’s inherently a little something wrong with you if you want to be famous or a politician, an insecurity, the need to be loved and worshipped, etc.

“Sorry, folks. I believe Edwards on this one.”

I don’t believe him. My antennae are up. I smell something rotten in Denmark, and it smells like an affair to me.

Indeed I do. I think Hitlary’s been sitting on this looking for an appropriate time to let the dogs loose. The time is now. She has dropped her stink bomb. Too bad for Edwards that he gave her the fodder she needed to make the bomb. Funny thing, a poll was just taken (in Iowa I believe) of who was the couple most in love with each other amongst the candidates. Guess who won? That’s right, John Edwards and his wife. Hah. Well it appears the lie has been put to that poll. The real winner should have been Mitt Romney and his wife (who like Elizabeth Edwards, has a disease, multiple sclerosis). But no, it was the Breck girl whom it now appears has been double crossing his “sweetie.” A cad is born every minute.
