Ann Coulter Shocks Cable TV Show, Declaring 'Jews Need to Be Perfected by Becoming Christians'
FOX ^ | 10/11/07 | Unknown

Slash-and-burn columnist Ann Coulter shocked a cable TV talk-show audience Monday when she declared that Jews need to be "perfected" by becoming Christians, and that America would be better off if everyone were Christian.

Coulter made the remarkable statements during an often heated appearance to promote her new book on advertising guru Danny Deutsch's CNBC show "The Big Idea."

In response to a question from Deutsch asking Coulter if "it would be better if we were all Christian," the controversial columnist responded: "Yes."

"We should all be Christian?" Deutsch repeated.

"Yes," Coulter responded, asking Deutsch, who is Jewish, if he would like to "come to church with me."

Deutsch, pressing Coulter further, asked, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians?" She responded: "Yeah."

Coulter deflected Deutsch's assertion that her comments were anti-Semitic, matter-of-factly telling the show's obviously upset host, "That is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews."

“Are you familiar some of the symptoms of meth addiction?”

Speed freaks often run their mouths without making much sense. What are you on? Seroiusly, let’s try to keep this fracas on an adult level, shall we?

As to the difference between the two version, I’d say “we want them to be perfected” is a hope that something be done by them, while “they need to be perfected” sounds more like something to be done to them, rather than by them...But that’s some fine mincing for spoken words. I’m not going to defend the overall tone of her comments because I’ve never cared for the overall tone of her comments...She is like a juvenile trash-talking sports fan, transplanted into the political world...I’ll take Ingraham or Levin any day of the week.

I'd agree with your characterization of her. In my mind the issue isn't he belief, which is fine, but from a political perspective her suggestion for making the country a better place by converting Jews, and tying it to the Republican Party, which now puts Republicans in the position of being asked to respond. And gives Dems ammunition to tie her nuttiness to Republicans.

in general conversation you don’t say that

Maybe you don't, but the apostles did.

Given the history of forced conversion being foisted on Jews at various times, you’ll have to forgive us for not appreciating what she says.

I thought the term used is “completed” instead of “perfected”. She should have said “completed”.

Thank you xjcsa, however Nachum has a good answer that goes with what I said in post 35.

You make valid points. It may well marginalize her and hurt Republicans in the electoral process (how much remains to be seen), but that also may not be her top priority. She seems to think it more important to speak the truth (and to get attention doing so) than anything else. For better or worse.

Being nothing more than a Born Again Sinner, I can’t really make that determination. Way above my pay scale. She spoke the Truth and I agree with everything she says.

. Anne Coulter is finished Ann is gaining in wisdom with age.

She is framing a discussion that all can participate in. Too bad 'some' can't reconcile their programmed obnoxiousness toward Christianity. No need to fly off the handle as the Muslims do.

Brilliantly Ann puts the life/freewill over death/submission challenge to the Muslims, and the 'life hereafter' over 'life on earth' challenge to the Jews.

She could have a point when you consider that IMO Alan Dershowitz and Woody Allan have serious inner shortcomings, as they are laws unto themselves.

Ann, bless her, is taking the spears, in bringing up what needs to be discussed. She's throwing everyone over the loop with a simple word "perfected"

I guess you are offended that christians should participate in the democratic process. Tough sh*t.

Huh? Where did you get *that*? Or do you believe that the only way Christians can or should serve in government is to try to codify their religious beliefs into law?

I'm sure he doesn't believe that, but he realizes that it's better to be at war with a few thousand Moslems than with all 1 billion of them.

And if he believes statements like that are going to influence the American Muslims anymore than feeding popcorn to Teddy worked then he is just as goofy

There’s no denying the Jews have had their share of suffering. But at what point do Christians get to cry foul? First, we had our Pledge of Allegiance and Prayer removed from schools. Now we have Muslims and others forcing their p.c. ways into the very places that refuse Christians to be acknowledged.

I believe the pendulum will swing in the other direction before too long. I believe that because I see members of my generation (I was born in '68) returning to the churches our parents abandoned . . . or . . . if not returning to the churches, returning to a more traditional spiritual home than new age-ism of our parents' generation.

The truth is, she’s right about this, too, as usual.

I once heard, “Truth Hurts.” Once upon a time I questioned that, but no more. It is very hard for many people to deal with the truth.

I saw the segment on MSMBC...Ann was correct in her statements with respect to Christianity and tried to explain them whilst Danny Putz Deutch couldn’t contain his overt signs of limpwristed leftist outrage. I’d bet there are millions of Americans that believe in the statements that Ann made and in the correct context. Its the MSM and the lefties that are demonizing Ann for her statements and it the cowards and pussies that don’t have the gonads to stand up with her for her honest statements.

Perhaps her words are correct to true Christianity, yet the way she speaks to people is becoming very un-christian, no?

Christians are NOT suppose to hid their light under a basket, and if one is the least bit familiar with the words out of Christ's mouth He was NOT the least bit shy, that is why those religious leaders sought to kill him.

Hi Bray

You and I agree on almost everything but here we tend to disagree. As a Christian who is originally from the Middle East I understand a lot what does it take to be a Christian. My forefathers chose their faith in Christ and refused to become muslims over 13 centuries ago, and they did it knowing that they are going to be either killed or live like slaves. I lived in Lebanon during the 15 years the Lebanese civil war where the goal was to exterminate us, the Christians.

I have a lot of problems with Ann Coulter not only because of what she just said but also because of many other outrageous stuff she said before. I know that there are a lot of good and great freepers like you who love her. I simply believe that she speaks a very damaging rhetoric to our side and she does not make strong arguments for our side as Rush Limbaugh and many other conservatives do.

To: Leftism is Mentally Deranged

I disagree that they were ‘equivalent’ statements. She did not say “Jews need to be...” anything, she said “Christians consider themselves...”. The first statement conveys a directive and the second a descriptive. The statements are different in intent. Fox News should retract their restated quote.

Ann is a lawyer, she knows the Constitution, she knows Jews are free to exercise their religion and nobody can take that away from them. Ann has the opinion that everyone including Jews would be better if they were Christian. I disagree; Christians are mostly sinners and many are frauds. The world would not be better off if everyone labeled themselves ‘Christian’ because many so-called Christians are not Christians but members of a herd.

To be a true Christian is a blessing. If you consider yourself a true Christian, then you have a gift that can only come from above. You cannot be a Christian by saying ‘I am a Christian’ nor can you be one by publicly proclaiming the catch phrases and passages of Christianity such as John 3:16. It is something much more deeply spiritual and powerful that makes a true Christian. It is something that guides every thought and lives in every word.

Most persons calling themselves Christians are not Christians, they are trying to be Christians, they are practicing to be Christians but they are not yet near. But Jesus made it clear to keep knocking at the door and never give up.
