Robert Cox: Google bans anti-MoveOn.org ads
Examiner.com ^ | 10/11/07 | Robert Cox

Internet giant Google has banned advertisements critical of MoveOn.org, the far-left advocacy group that caused a national uproar last month...Google’s Web site states, “Google takes allegations of trademark infringement very seriously and, as a courtesy, we’re happy to investigate matters raised by trademark owners.”

"...Google routinely permits the unauthorized use of company names such as Exxon, Wal-Mart, Cargill and Microsoft in advocacy ads. An anti-war ad currently running on Google asks “Keep Blackwater in Iraq?” and links to an article titled “Bastards at Blackwater — Should Blackwater Security be held accountable for the deaths of its employees?”

Google is selectively allowing and disallowing political speech on their site. That is their right, but it makes me want to have another option when it comes to search engines.

These jerks are reminding me of the "Big 3" networks of yesteryear: thinking they are, and always will be, the only game in town.

"Switch to Ask.com for your search needs."

I've tried Ask.com and for the things I search for, and it sucks. It won't even come up with my website if I type the web address in exactly as it should be.

I see a lot of hype about it on TV, but from my experience it doesn't cut it.

Google is worse than the Big 3 ever were. They censor for the ChiComs so banning this ad is small potatoes for them. Do what I do, use Altavista, I always have and find it better than Google.

Clusty.com is an excellent search engine.

One glitch though: if you type “tiennamen square” in the search box, you get something about a brutal crackdown of chinese dissidents, and I think we’ld have heard about that if it had really happened.

I use Goodsearch and make sure the donation goes to a good conservative cause. I presently have the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes slated to receive my pennies from Google.

Here are some good search alternatives to Google. These will all go in FireFox search bar. Probably IE too, but I don’t use IE.

http://www.scroogle.org/

http://www.altavista.com/ they have image, video, MP3 Audio and news searches too.

http://www.dogpile.com/info.dogpl/search/index.htm

http://search.yahoo.com/

http://www.goodsearch.com/

http://www.ask.com/?o=0&l=dir

http://www.live.com/?searchonly=true&mkt=en-CA

If Google does not like our politics and values lets go elsewhere.
