Dobson Admits Third Party Might Help Clinton
The Christian Post ^ | October 10, 2007 | Ethan Cole

Conservative evangelical leader Dr. James Dobson admits that a third-party plan supported by pro-family leaders might unintentionally help elect democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton.

The influential pro-family advocate still contends, however, that he would rather vote following his values than compromise and be forced to choose between two pro-choice candidates.

“We’re very, very concerned about the implications of a Hillary Clinton presidency, but you know, we have been working … for 35 years, I’ve been trying to defend the unborn child,” Dobson said on Fox’s Hannity & Colmes show Monday.

“That’s been my life. That’s been my belief, along with marriage and the family and the other things. I can’t now abandon that because we’ve got two bad choices here.”

Currently leading the Democratic race and Republican race are New York senator Hillary Clinton and former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, respectively. Both have been criticized by conservatives for their pro-choice and pro-gay rights stances among other issues.

During a meeting in Salt Lake City, about 50 pro-family leaders decided they would consider backing a third-party candidate if the Republican Party chose a pro-choice nominee, such as Giuliani

In an Op-Ed in the New York Times last week, Dobson explained the coalition’s decision and the reasoning, stating that as “vitally important” as it is for the GOP to win the presidential election, it should not be won “at the expense of what we hold most dear.”

His announcement that a core Republican constituency could consider withdrawing their support from the party next year stirred controversy and created greater division in the already divided GOP.

“Why would we not support someone who does line up with our values system, when we would have to literally hold our noses to support somebody that contradicts those values?” Dobson posed to Hannity – who supports Giuliani despite agreeing with Dobson “99 percent” of the time.

When further pressed on the possibility that his third party plan could help Clinton, Dobson replied that the elections are still far away and elections are “very dynamic” and “volatile.”

“There’s still a possibility that one of those other candidates, a dark horse, could come from nowhere,” Dobson said.

As the frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination, Giuliani has repeatedly stated he can beat Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton – an appealing statement for those who see Clinton as a larger threat.

A recent Gallup Poll also found that the former New York City mayor had an overall favorable rating from churchgoing Protestants. Among the top tier Republican candidates, Giuliani was rated third by religious Protestants after former senator Fred Thompson and Arizona senator John McCain.

How can you sleep at night knowing your RINO ways opened the door for Hillary? Weak and patehetic RINO sellouts, the sinking of the GOP.

Goes both ways.

So it was our Republican party that gave me a political home. When I signed up for duty, I didn’t have to check my principles at the door. And I soon found out that the desire for victory did not overcome our devotion to ideals.

“If you will just agree to the murdering of your children, then we can win the presidency.”

That quotation sums up best the salivation of power and what folks will trade to grab it.

it will guarantee a Clinton WH - and Dobson will be the villain.

So, here's my question...which parts of your conscience do you selectively ignore to vote your conscience? No candidate is going to meet all of your expectations. It seems that abortion is the go/no-go issue for people, but what about the myriad of other issues?

I'm no Rudy fan...not in the least. I'm hoping for Fred, but I just can't stomach the idea of Hillary. If if comes down to Rudy V. Hillary, I will vote for Rudy. I would rather have him in the office than the communist wench.

Funny ain’t it ? And why would that be? Could it be the Democrat Rudy?

Live with it, we could all agree here on FR and save a lot of insults...but...you can’t make us vote for Rudy on election day.

Outcome. Hillary wins. Why will you lose? Rudy. just a fact.

I agree. If Dobson endorsed Hunter, his poll numbers would start going up past McCain, Paul, Tancredo, Huckabee etc.

It’s pretty sad when the Republicans have to fear Christians standing by their principles.

If you want Hillary, then nominate Guliani.

Wrong - in case you havent noticed, conservatives have become irrelavent. Gays are now a protected class, God is banned from Govt., Diversity trumps character, we no longer have a border, our president equates Christianity with Islam. Wake up and quit drinking the RINO punch. Pretty soon speaking out on boards like this will be banned as hate speach and surprisingly enough it will be enforced by RINOs.

Yes, and all of these things will come about even faster with the Hildebeast on the throne.

This is one evangelical that will support Fred. I will NOT support OR vote for Rudy and I do not care WHAT the results will be so rudy-bots, save your flames; heard it, wiped with it, you can keep it.

Third party? Not necessary. Just stay home.

He hasn’t specifically mentioned Thompson. If Republicans are worried about this, they should just nominate a conservative! Pretty much a no brainer. He said IF they nominate a pro choicer.

Where in the WORLD did you get the idea I want Rudy as the nominee?!! I am 200% behind Fred Thompson, a 100% pro-life candidate. If Rudy does somehow gain the nomination, I’m packing my bags for distant shores, because Hillary vs. Rudy is NO CHOICE at all!!

I hear you. However,we live in an imperfect world and expecting perfection is almost always an exercise in futility. And as disappointing as President Gulliani (for example) might be for someone (you, perhaps?) try this on for size....President Hillary Clinton 2009-2017...President Barak Husein Obama 2017-2025.

As I said...the scumbags over at DUmmie Land are praying to every pagan "god",every wiccan "god" and to Ramsey Clark himself that Dobson's followers...and others...rebel.

Did this guy ever understand the idea that NO ONE ever gets everything they want, esp. in politics? It is one thing to vote your conscience in the primaries (that's what you're supposed to do, actually), but when it comes to the General Election, you vote for the lesser of 2 evils.

This moron KNOWS that having a significant block of his flock and those he influences vote 3rd Party is a recipe for a Hillary LANDSLIDE (not a mere win). Is he stupid...does he WANT her to be nominating judges, naming the next AG, making our foreign policy, etc.? Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face!

Even a pro-abortion, socially liberal Republican is better than Hillary or the rest of the Dem field. At least with them, there'll be some country to take back in 2012.

If he really cares about his issues, Dobson will fight to nominate a conservative, but also fight to nominate LOTS of conservatives to Congressional races - so that if a Rudy gets the nomination and wins, at least those Congressmen beholden to him will be able to stymie some uber-lib policy put forth by the new President.

Everyone waiting around for a 100% candidate will never be happy with a republican with whom they disagree on 20% on the issues but agree on 80%. I guess they’ll be happy when they have someone they disagree with 100% when their taxes are raised and aspects of their lives (financial, gun ownership, energy, health, education choices) are taken over by the govt because “it’s for your own good”.
But then it’ll be too late because free speech sites like this and radio shows like Rush will be shut down as “hate speech” in the name of civil comity.

This is all part of their plan and too bad some of us can’t see beyond how one person feels about one issue to care enough about the rest of the issues.

“Dobson is finally exhibiting his long repressed Pat
Robertson gene. He has jumped the shark, crossed the line, gone over to the dark side. He has become irrelevant.”

IYHO? Unfortunately not everyones. Most would not criticize a fine Christian moral leader for his views, since he is exactly that.

“Yes, and all of these things will come about even faster with the Hildebeast on the throne.”

Maybe and maybe not, so far with Bush as president Ive watched this country fall farther into the moral abyss than I ever thought it would. He has not championed anything from a moral perspective - its all about the WOT - all while letting terrorists and criminals come through our border. Remember we elected a house and senate majority under Clinton - we were unified. Now Im not hoping for a Hitlery win but I will not vote for someone who is also a Hitlerlylite.

If you firmly believe that, as some others here do, why would you support nominating a candidate that would cause this to happen?
