General Rebukes Special Operations Forces - Lawmaker requests probe of Kearney's actions
The Washington Times ^ | Oct 10, 2007 | Sharon Behn

A crusading three-star general has sparked outrage within the Army Special Forces and Marine Special Operations Command by publicly condemning and twice bringing legal actions against members of their forces.

None of Lt. Gen. Frank Kearney's actions has resulted in a conviction, but they have roiled the military community, led to the resignations of several top-trained Marines, and sparked accusations of improper command influence.

Rep. Walter B. Jones, North Carolina Republican, worried about the effect on the military, has asked Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates to investigate Gen. Kearney, who currently heads the Special Operations Command. The case also has attracted widespread comment in military publications and blogs.

The general's actions "have damaged the lives of many of our special operators and deserve to be investigated," Mr. Jones said in an Oct. 3 letter to Mr. Gates.

Col. Hans Bush, special forces public affairs officer for the Special Operations Command, said yesterday that Gen. Kearney stood "ready to support any investigation directed by the secretary of defense in this matter."

How could the man say such a thing?

From here, it looks as if the aide made that comment. However, I specifically know of an admiral that was 'fired' for "Poor Command Climate"; I suspect that this Kearney is another ringer like Sestak and agree he needs to be removed from any position of leadership.

This part alone is troubling:

“In March, Gen. Kearney finalized a decision to redeploy all 120 members of the Marine Special Operations Command Fox Company out of Afghanistan, halfway through an internal preliminary investigation into the Marines’ response to an ambush on March 4.”

Thank you for posting RDTF. I am going to cut and paste my "walter b. detour" just so no one has any illusions that the the lil' darlin' has the Marine Corps at heart. He does not. He and Kearney are both dirtbags. JMHO.

To: xzins Marine Corps bases Camp Lejeune, Cherry Point, New River, Camp Geiger the epicenter of the East Coast Corps is in this scum’s scope. He also shares the House with murtha. His daddy was a democrat and he’s called for the troops to come home. He’s a ‘playa’ in Roman Catholic clothing. He could have opened his mouth any time. He chose not to do so until now. He accepted the gift of a sword from Ilario Pantano, and then, CHOSE NOT TO USE IT to defend the Corps. Unforgivable. He’s only doing THIS because he realizes he’s screwed himself at the ballot box. He’s a two-faced son-of-a-damn-democrat.

To: brityank You could ask him how many votes he thinks it’ll buy. I have to keep hitting the backspace key, I’m so mad. The Corps in NC knows he’s forsaken them and is only grandstanding to cover his arse come election time. He’s in deep $#!+ with his electorate and he knows it. His record speaks for itself. Loudly.

To: brityank April 11, the NC Attorney General dropped all charges against Duke Lacross players. June 20, a week after the NC State Bar confiscated Nifong’s license, walter b. issued a statement wherein he vowed to continue to fight to protect American citizens from prosecutorial misconduct. He failed to mention any member of the United States Marine Corps. Just as he failed to rebutt mr. murtha.

Bill O Riley had this clown exposed about 3 weeks ago for hunting down two Marines who hunted down and killed a terrorist per their orders.

Apparently, no one would sign the charges, so Kearney ordered one of his staff to do the dirty deed.

B.O's guest advisor was that little old balding military fellow he has on fairly frequently, can't remember his name.

The facts were a bit incomplete by FR standards, but what isn't?

The show did make me remember Kearney's name and the fact he's a traitor, so I'll give El Bloviator his due for that.

JONES ASKS FOR PRESIDENT’S PROTECTION OF MARINE’S RIGHTS
“It is outrageous for a Marine to be treated this way by the very country he fought to defend.”

Washington, D.C.- In a letter today to President Bush, Third District Representative Walter B. Jones asked the President to protect the legal rights of Camp Lejeune Marine, 2nd Lt. Ilario Pantano, as he faces charges of pre-meditated murder for his military actions in Iraq. While serving in Iraq last April, Pantano was forced to shoot two Iraqi insurgents after they advanced toward him, ignoring his order to halt. Lt. Pantano was scheduled to have an Article 32 hearing on his case on April 25th, but yesterday he waived that right thereby expediting the case straight to trial. Lt. Pantano and his attorneys were repeatedly denied their right to access the evidence and witnesses the prosecution was going to use during the hearing. Confident of his innocence and leery of the prosecution’s unfair practices, they waived his right to the hearing.

“It is outrageous for a Marine to be treated this way by the very country he fought to defend,” Jones wrote. “I continue to believe that 2nd Lieutenant Pantano is innocent of the charges against him, and that his unfair treatment in the Article 32 proceedings and his continued prosecution by the U.S. government sends a horrible message to the brave men and women serving on the front lines of freedom. I know you have incredible demands on your time, but as Commander-in-Chief I respectfully request that you insure that 2nd Lieutenant Ilario Pantano is guaranteed his full and complete legal rights under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.”

Representative Jones has also sent a copy of the letter to House Armed Services Committee Chairman Duncan Hunter and Ranking Member Congressman Ike Skelton.

For additional information or to schedule an interview with Congressman Walter B. Jones please contact Kristen Quigley at (202) 225-3415.

NC PING

Walter Jones is trying to redeem himself after being photgraphed with the sheehadi.
Votevets has been running ads in support of Jones, and against the challenger, Joe McLaughlin an Army Ranger, in the 3rd District of NC.
Jones was one of only two Repubs who voted for a timetable for withdrawl in 2005.
