Republican Presidential Candidate Debate #8 Dearborn, Michigan 10/09/07 - Official Discussion Thread
CNBC/MSNBC/The Wall Street Journal are jointly sponsoring the first Republican Presidential debate of the 2008 campaign focusing on economic issues. It will be held on October 9 in Dearborn, Michigan at the University of Michigan-Dearborn at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center. Broadcast is live on CNBC at 4 PM ET (1 PM PT) and re-broadcast on MSNBC at 9 PM ET (6 PM PT). CNBC's Maria Bartiromo and MSNBC's Chris Matthews will host the debate.
Candidates participating:
“Ron Paul and his flaming antiwar spam monkeys can Kiss my Ass!!”- Jim Robinson, Sept, 30, 2007
Thompson or Romney. I can live with either. No to Giuliani, Paul, McCain, and Huckabee. Tancredo and Hunter are good guys but they have no shot.
Vintage Huckabee. He and Romney are the most skilled speakers up there.
Guiliani's closing line on Canada and health care was superb.
Watching Fred the last few minutes makes me think he will be fine as these debates go along.
These post debates talking heads are unbelievable. McCain won??? Hello?????????
Romney got an MBA and JD at Harvard at the same time. I think his IQ must be stratospheric.
I have an MBA and JD (though not from Harvard). You’d be surprised how easy it can be.
I work with a couple of lawyers that are quite dim ... and I wouldn’t place myself among the great minds on the planet either.
H
What are they doing to McCain?!
He’s all static-y!!! CNBC sabotage?
I don’t think you can give him too much credit for having a good joke or two to a softball fluff question. He did ok with it but after this debate I think the poeple that argued that Fred would wipe the floor with Hillary in a debate need to reconsider their opinion of his debating skills. His answers were ok, but his speaking style was fairly boring and he often tripped over his words. He certainly would not have appeared to be one of the front runners if everyone didn’t know who he was going in.
Said he enjoyed watching the other guys but it was getting boring without him! hehe
I’m not sure if it was three years or 4, but I think he did it in three.
McCain is getting static!lol
CNBC is saying that McCain did a fantastic job! Calling him the “comeback kid”!!
Here's how he feels about McCain.
When the blogs get hold of this soundbite, Mitt will be the one hit out of the park.
You're right. I can't think of anything that would make a citizen feel less confident in a prospective CIC than that ridiculous statement. Leaders lead, managers manage. Mitt is a manager. We need a leader for President who can make decisions without the help of a gaggle of lawyers.
Mitt, you blew it!
Debate will be repeated tonight at 6 pm Pacific, 9 Eastern.
Fred controlled the debate because his appearance made it clear the race is between Romney, Giuliani, and himself. Thompson made the other candidates marginal even though McCain did a very good job. I am watching Shuster on MSNBC and he is going to tell everyone who won the debate not that knows much about Republican politics.
I tell ya what; that's about how I saw it, too, and I watched the whole thing.
As I mentioned, if these questions were put to the Democrat candidates, we'd see total chaos without them being softballed and prepped.
It was a nasty shot from Chrissy, but I would only give Fred a "B" for his response.
The absence of Mr. Harper's first name seemed to me a subtle but awkward deficit in Fred's response. Not that Mr. Harper's first name leaps to my mind. And, I repeat...it was an aggressive cheapshot from Chrissy...I think responding to Fred making him look the fool a few minutes earlier.
I hate to agree with you about Fred but you tagged him pretty well.
